About this role

Store Leader, Chestnut Street (San Francisco)

About American Giant

Since 2012, American Giant has made cotton clothing in the United States for people who live fully, work hard, and carry themselves with quiet confidence. Our first product, the Classic Full Zip, was called "The Greatest Hoodie Ever Made." More than a decade later it still sets the standard for everything we make.

We know the people who make our clothes. The farmers who grow the cotton, the mills that spin it, the sewers on the floor in Middlesex, North Carolina. Keeping production here is a supply chain decision, a community investment, and a philosophy of accountability. It is the whole reason the company exists, and our customers are the reason it still does.

About the Role

Our Chestnut Street store sits in one of San Francisco's most-walked retail corridors, in the city American Giant calls home. It is a full expression of the brand for both men and women, and it is the store our leadership team walks into most often. Visibility like that is an opportunity and a responsibility.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial Store Leader to run it. You will build a team, grow a loyal customer base, and make the store part of the neighborhood. You will also serve as the connective tissue between our stores and our headquarters, carrying what you see on the floor back to the merchandising, marketing, and operations teams, and translating company priorities into execution across the fleet.

This is a role with room to grow. As American Giant expands its retail footprint, the person in this seat will help shape how we open, staff, and operate the stores that come next.

Responsibilities

Sales & Customer Experience

• Own store sales performance, communicating financial goals to the team and driving accountability for individual and store results

• Build and retain a loyal customer base through relationship selling, clienteling, outreach, and consistent follow-up

• Lead the sales floor with a strong presence, delivering exceptional service and coaching the team to effective selling behaviors

• Serve both our men's and women's customers with equal depth of product knowledge and service

• Act as the voice of the customer, regularly sharing insights with leadership on product, fit, pricing, assortment, and unmet customer needs

• Resolve customer concerns with empathy, urgency, and professionalism

Retail Channel Leadership

• Act as the primary link between the store and headquarters, bringing floor-level insight to merchandising, marketing, planning, and operations partners

• Translate company initiatives into clear, executable direction for the store team and provide honest feedback on what is working and what is not

• Help build the operating standards, training, and playbooks that will carry across a growing store fleet

Team Leadership

• Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing team

• Build a culture of ownership, curiosity, and exceptional service

• Develop deep product expertise across the team, particularly around materials, construction, wear over time, and the people and places behind how our clothes get made

• Set clear expectations, provide meaningful feedback, and recognize individual and team achievements

Merchandising

• Execute in-store product presentation, ensuring visual merchandising and product storytelling reflect the vision of the store and brand standards

• Analyze sales performance, customer feedback, and shopping behavior to inform future buys and assortment decisions across men's and women's

• Partner with the merchandising team on size, fit, and allocation needs specific to the San Francisco customer

Brand Engagement

• Execute in-store events, local partnerships, and brand activations that drive awareness, traffic, and community engagement

• Build relationships in the Marina and across San Francisco to establish the store as a neighborhood destination

• Host press, partners, and company guests, representing American Giant well in a store that gets a lot of eyes on it

• Support the evolution of the retail concept by testing new ideas, gathering customer response, and recommending improvements to the store experience

Store Operations

• Drive productivity and profitability through strong operational controls, including strategic scheduling, payroll management, inventory accuracy, and loss prevention

• Analyze store performance, identify opportunities and challenges, and translate insights into clear actions for the team

• Maintain exceptional store standards and oversee all facilities operations including cleanliness, repairs and maintenance, stockroom organization, and overall store presentation

• Ensure consistent execution of operational policies and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve store efficiency

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of three years of retail management experience; apparel experience strongly preferred

• Demonstrated ability to drive sales, develop teams, and take ownership of store-level business performance

• Comfort selling and merchandising across both men's and women's apparel

• Strong understanding of relationship selling, clienteling, and delivering highly personalized customer experiences

• Experience with visual merchandising and an eye for product presentation and storytelling

• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a growing retail organization

• Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret performance, identify opportunities, and adjust strategy when needed
