As a Technical Specialist, Liability Underwriting, you'll manage some of our most significant and challenging accounts while acting as a trusted advisor to underwriters, brokers, and partners. This is an opportunity to influence underwriting decisions, strengthen capability across the team, and help deliver outstanding outcomes for customers. You'll bring deep liability underwriting experience, a passion for sharing knowledge, and the confidence to guide others through complex risk conversations. This is a permanent full-time role based in Naarm (Melbourne). What You'll Do
• Manage a portfolio of large and complex liability risks, balancing portfolio performance, customer outcomes, and sustainable growth.
• Build strong relationships with brokers and partners to create new opportunities and strengthen long term market connections.
• Provide expert underwriting guidance on complex risks, referrals, and coverage decisions across the liability portfolio.
• Coach and mentor underwriters, helping to uplift technical capability, confidence, and decision making across the team.
• Support consistent underwriting practices by applying sound risk selection, pricing, and acceptance principles.
• Influence portfolio strategy by identifying emerging opportunities, market trends, and areas requiring underwriting focus.
• Act as a trusted escalation point, bringing commercial judgement and technical expertise to challenging underwriting decisions.
What You'll Bring
• Strong experience underwriting complex liability risks in a commercial insurance environment.
• Proven ability to build credibility and relationships with brokers and industry partners.
• Sound commercial judgement and confidence making complex underwriting decisions.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing underwriting capability within a team.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence a range of stakeholders.
• Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to share knowledge and challenge thinking.
• An insurance qualification, e.g. ANZIIF Cert IV, and/or tertiary degree or equivalent industry experience (essential)
