About this role
Overview As a Senior Critical Environment Technician (CET) within Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organisation, you will play a key role in maintaining the critical infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s global cloud platform. This hands-on position involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical facility systems while working closely with vendors, site leadership, and technical teams. You will monitor equipment performance, perform preventative and corrective maintenance, respond to operational incidents, and help ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of datacentre operations. You will also share technical expertise and support the development of fellow technicians. Responsibilities Serve as a technical specialist within a critical environment discipline such as electrical, mechanical, controls, or generator systems. Independently perform advanced operational and maintenance activities. Inspect and monitor critical infrastructure, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and control systems, identifying and escalating abnormal conditions. Use Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to manage assets, maintenance activities, and work orders. Lead or support onsite incident response activities and coordinate corrective actions to restore operations safely and efficiently. Follow, develop, and enhance Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical facility equipment. Troubleshoot complex equipment, systems, subsystems, and components within your area of expertise. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced technicians. Maintain compliance with safety, security, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and operational standards. Qualifications Required Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, with significant experience in mission-critical environments such as datacentres, manufacturing facilities, healthcare organisations, pharmaceutical facilities, energy infrastructure, or similar operational settings; or equivalent practical experience. Experience within a specialised technical discipline, including mechanical, electrical, controls, or a related field.
Security Requirements Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including: Successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience working in mission-critical facilities or critical infrastructure environments. Associate’s Degree, technical trade certification, military training, or other relevant technical qualifications. Advanced expertise in a specialised discipline with proven troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities. Experience supporting high-availability environments and complex facility systems.
