Overview Library Page positions are educational opportunities for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in an accredited educational program. The Jerome Robbins Dance Division is the largest dance archive and library in the world and fulfills NYPL’s mission by providing excellent reference and access to our collections as well as hosting a broad range of public programming, outreach, and educational initiatives. The Dance Division’s Library Page supports the Division’s collection maintenance, exhibition, and public service activities, working primarily with the Division’s General Research and Special Collections, as well as other projects as assigned. The library page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays. Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change. You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Assistant Curator, the Library Page: Retrieves and shelves Special Collections materials, including processed and unprocessed archival, manuscript, graphic, and audio and moving image materials Rehouses and reshelf fragile materials including papers, scrapbooks, photographs, prints, designs, and original artworks Shelf-reads Special Collections and General Research holdings Assists in preparing and sending Special Collections materials for exhibition, processing, and to off-site storage Prepares and processes material for use in the Special Collections Reading Room Performs general office duties, including photocopying and messaging Required Education & Experience Page Positions are reserved for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in a degree program/accredited school. (High School, GED Program, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, etc) Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law Required Skills Demonstrated interest in dance and/or other performing arts Computer skills, including working knowledge of Google Suite and web searching. Communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships Ability to accurately and efficiently sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instruction in a fast-paced environment Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse patronage Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, reliability, and initiative This position requires frequent lifting and carrying of library materials; pushing and pulling of book carts; and frequent stooping and reaching
