About this role

Job summary

To be a member of the Portering and Security team providing a customer focused service to patients, staff and visitors to the James Paget University Hospital. Experience of similar roles is desirable but not essential. Those who are willing to go above and beyond in contributing towards a safe and secure environment and assisting in the treatment of patients should feel at home in this role.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity to join the Portering and Security Department as a Portering and Security Officer has arisen.

As a Portering and Security Officer at the James Paget University Hospital, amongst other duties, you will work as part of a team charged with maintaining effective patient flow, and ensuring patient and staff safety across the site.

Armed with the capacity to defuse potentially violent situations, the ability to communicate effectively, and a passion for playing your part in the provision of the very best patient care, you will play a key role in the operational effort of the hospital.

This is a bank position and shift times will include nights and weekend working. The department is looking for reliable, regularly available and keen individuals to boost and support our hard working team.

Education and Qualifications Essential

Good Literacy skills

Desirable

Health & Safety Training Manual Handling Training

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Experience in working with a large Team Experience of working with the general public

Experience of working within an NHS environment

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Ability to work as a team member and prioritise tasks Good communication skills - to be able to interact effectively with the public and colleagues Have appropriate skills to diffuse and de-escalate aggressive behaviour in patients and the public
