We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Independent Prescriber (PIP) to join our Triage and Resolutions Team and play a pivotal role in shaping decisions that protect the public and support high standards of pharmacy practice.
The Role
Following the success of a recent pilot, we are excited to recruit a Senior Advisor to join our Triage and Resolutions Team. This is a new opportunity for an experienced Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (PIP) to play a pivotal role in safeguarding patients and upholding confidence in pharmacy practice. As a trusted clinical expert, you will provide specialist pharmacy advice and insight to support us in delivering one of its statutory functions. Your expertise will help shape regulatory decisions, inform policy development, and contribute to a fair, proportionate and evidence-based fitness to practise process.
Working closely with colleagues across the Enforcement portfolio, Inspections and the wider organisation, you will be at the heart of regulatory decision-making, ensuring that initial assessments are consistent, proportionate, and aligned with current pharmacy practice, professional standards, and are focussed on public protection and in the public interest.
Main duties of the job
Be a registered pharmacist with significant post-registration experience as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (PIP).
Provide expert advice on pharmacy practice and clinical risk to support decisions on whether concerns relating to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should progress to investigation.
Apply sound professional judgement to help colleagues navigate complex clinical, professional and patient safety issues.
Support consistent, proportionate and evidence-based decision-making within the Triage and Resolutions Team.
Contribute to the induction, training and ongoing development of colleagues, sharing specialist knowledge and expertise across the team.
Act as a trusted source of advice and guidance, providing both formal and informal support to colleagues on pharmacy practice matters.
Help build capability and confidence within the team, promoting high-quality decision-making and continuous improvement.

Job purposeTo provide expert pharmacy and independent prescribing advice to support regulatory decision-making, ensuring concerns involving pharmacy professionals are assessed consistently, proportionately, and in the public interest.
The role contributes to public protection by advising on pharmacy practice and clinical risk, supporting fitness to practise processes, and helping develop capability within the Triage and Resolutions Team through training, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
Main accountabilities Providing expert pharmacy practice advice and clinical insight to support effective, fair, and proportionate regulatory decision-making across the Fitness to Practise and Enforcement functions.
Acting as a trusted source of professional expertise, providing formal and informal advice on pharmacy practice, registrants, and pharmacy services to colleagues across Triage, Investigations, and the wider Enforcement portfolio.
Supporting casework by reviewing clinical records, assessing professional and patient safety risks, and providing evidence-based opinions informed by legislation, GPhC standards, guidance, regulatory policy, and current best practice.
Contributing to the development, review, and implementation of regulatory guidance, operational procedures, and Fitness to Practise policies to ensure they reflect evolving pharmacy practice and the public interest.
Providing professional quality assurance and operational support to the Triage team, including case reviews, coaching, training, and day-to-day advice to promote consistency, confidence, and high-quality decision-making.
Monitoring developments in pharmacy practice, healthcare regulation, legislation, medicines optimisation, and emerging technologies, advising colleagues on their potential impact on regulatory processes and decision-making.
Developing and delivering learning resources, guidance materials, and training activities that build pharmacy practice knowledge and capability across the organisation.
Contributing to quality assurance activities, service improvements, and cross-functional projects that strengthen organisational effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the GPhC, including Policy and Standards, Communications, and other portfolios, to provide specialist expertise and support strategic organisational priorities.
Building and maintaining effective relationships with registrants, professional bodies, and external stakeholders, representing the GPhC at meetings, conferences, consultations, and engagement events to promote high standards of pharmacy practice and patient care.
Maintaining your professional knowledge and expertise through continuing professional development, ensuring advice remains informed by current evidence, regulatory developments, and contemporary pharmacy practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered Pharmacist with significant post registration experience as a PIP. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex clinical information and communicate findings clearly and effectively to both clinical and non-clinical audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement, objectivity, and professionalism in complex or sensitive situations. Ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage competing priorities, while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams and delivering outcomes under pressure. Experience of preparing reports, guidance, or other professional documentation, including providing constructive professional critique where appropriate. Strong organisational skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, and bringing forward ideas and solutions. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to quickly learn and effectively use new systems and technologies. Apply the relevant management systems, procedures, policies and training related to risk management, health and safety, information security, data protection and business continuity. Apply and manage the diversity and equality policy and practice pertinent to the role.
Desirable
Knowledge of Fitness to Practise processes and healthcare regulatory frameworks. Experience working within a professional regulatory, healthcare, policy, education, quality assurance, or patient safety environment. Experience of committee work, panel support, or providing expert professional advice to senior stakeholders and decision-makers. Experience of designing and delivering training, presentations, or guidance to a range of audiences with varying levels of knowledge and experience.
