Job summary
We are looking for an experienced Primary Care Paramedic to join our friendly and supportive clinical team at Spilsby Surgery.
This is a varied and rewarding role, offering the opportunity to use your assessment, clinical decision-making and autonomous practice skills across a broad range of patient presentations, both within the surgery and in the community.
You will be joining a practice where Paramedics are an important part of the clinical team, working closely with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals, with regular opportunities for clinical discussion and shared learning.
We are looking for someone who wants to become part of the practice, not simply fill a role. You will be encouraged to bring your own experience, ideas and interests to the team, continue to develop your career in primary care and play an active part in the ongoing development of our clinical services.
Main duties of the job
The Paramedic will be an integral member of our clinical team, providing assessment and care for patients presenting with both new and ongoing health concerns.
A key part of the role will be helping patients access the right care at the right time. You will assess, treat and advise patients where appropriate, arrange onward referral or follow-up when needed, and work with other members of the team where a different clinical input is required.
The role will also include supporting patients who are unable to attend the surgery, including home visits and working with other professionals involved in their care.
You will be well supported in your day-to-day work, with dedicated clinical discussion time each day and regular multidisciplinary meetings. These provide protected opportunities to discuss cases, seek a second opinion and work together on patient care.

Spilsby Surgery is a rural dispensing practice caring for around 7,250 patients across Spilsby and the surrounding communities. Our team includes GPs, advanced practitioners, nursing staff, dispensary, care navigation and administrative colleagues, working closely alongside each other as one team.
Our patient population is diverse, covering all ages and a wide range of health needs. We also provide care to local care homes and housebound patients, making the work at Spilsby both interesting and rewarding.

About the role
As a Primary Care Paramedic at Spilsby Surgery, you will work as part of our multidisciplinary clinical team, providing assessment and care to patients with a range of acute and ongoing health needs.
You will use your clinical knowledge and experience to assess patients, make appropriate clinical decisions and provide treatment, advice, referral or escalation within your scope of competence.
You will work autonomously while having access to the support and expertise of our GPs and wider clinical team when required.
Clinical responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Assessing patients presenting with acute illness, minor illness and other health concerns appropriate to the Paramedic role. Taking appropriate clinical histories and carrying out physical examinations. Formulating appropriate management plans based on clinical assessment. Providing treatment, advice and safety-netting to patients and carers. Recognising deterioration, red flags and situations requiring urgent intervention or escalation. Referring patients to GPs, secondary care, community services or other healthcare professionals where appropriate. Undertaking home visits for housebound patients and others who require assessment at home. Supporting the ongoing care of patients where this falls within your competence and scope of practice. Reviewing and acting upon relevant clinical information, results and correspondence as appropriate to the role. Maintaining clear, accurate and contemporaneous clinical records. Working with colleagues to ensure patients are directed to the most appropriate clinician or service for their needs.
Working as part of the team
You will take part in our daily clinical discussion time and regular multidisciplinary meetings, providing opportunities to discuss patients, seek advice, share knowledge and contribute to decisions about patient care.
We expect all members of our team to communicate openly, support one another and recognise when another clinician's expertise or input is needed.
Prescribing and medicines
Where the postholder is an appropriately qualified Independent Prescriber, prescribing will be undertaken within their competence and in accordance with current guidance, local prescribing arrangements and practice procedures.
Where prescribing is required outside the postholder's qualifications or scope, this should be discussed with an appropriate prescribing clinician.
The postholder will work closely with our GPs, dispensary and wider clinical team to support safe and effective medicines management.
Quality and patient safety
All members of our clinical team contribute to maintaining and improving the quality and safety of the care we provide.
You will:
Work in accordance with HCPC professional standards, current clinical guidance and practice policies. Work within your professional scope of practice and recognise when advice or escalation is required. Take part in clinical audit and quality improvement activity. Contribute to significant event reviews and shared learning where appropriate. Support learning arising from complaints or patient safety concerns relating to your area of work. Follow practice safeguarding and infection prevention procedures. Contribute to safe and effective ways of working across the clinical team.
