You will professionally lead the clinical and care team during any span of duty, ensuring a safe, effective, and efficient nursing service that meets our residents' holistic needs. You will provide exceptional clinical care in accordance with assessed needs, ensuring strict compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and industry-leading standards.
Key responsibilities are to provide clinical leadership for the care team and act as a champion for residents' safety, clinical governance, and dignity. You will maintain your skills, professional knowledge, and NMC registration, ensuring all complex nursing and personal care are delivered according to the latest guidelines and best practice evidence. You will ensure the ongoing safety of residents, colleagues, and visitors through systematic clinical assessment, risk monitoring, and robust care reviews. It is vital to maintain clear, accurate, and legally defensible records, utilize effective communication systems, and act as a role model for excellent governance practice.
In this role, you will deliver effective leadership during your shift, offering direct support, guidance, and supervision for senior carers and the care team. You will supervise nursing and care colleagues on a day-to-day basis and liaise with GPs, social workers, and multidisciplinary health professionals to secure optimal care. You will demand high-quality, evidence-based care delivery focused on residents' individual choices, promoting a professional image through excellent communication, appropriate behaviour, and appearance. Furthermore, you will support new colleagues through induction programs, competencies, and training assessments.
To maintain skills and knowledge, you will ensure care is delivered according to the latest evidence and guidelines. You must keep up to date with professional developments, revalidation requirements, and best practice in older people and dementia care. This includes undertaking statutory, mandatory, and advanced clinical training, sharing your learning across daily practice. You will oversee and deliver daily clinical care, including complex wound management, pressure area prevention, syringe drivers, nutrition, and infection control. You also take full responsibility for the safe, legal administration, storage, and recording of medication in accordance with NMC guidelines and The Ingleborough Nursing Home Policies and Procedures, acting always within your professional scope of practice.
To ensure safe environments, you will develop, implement, and evaluate detailed clinical care plans using validated tools such as MUST, Waterlow, falls assessments, fluid or nutrition charts, and blood glucose monitoring. You will report and investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses promptly, ensuring reports are written clearly and concisely so that remedial learning is immediately integrated. You will promote activity-based, person-centred care to support resident independence. Additionally, you will maintain infection control standards, protect residents' property, and ensure clinical equipment is safe, clean, and fully functional, reporting faults immediately.
Governance and communication require you to maintain accurate records and align daily practice with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and CQC frameworks. You will ensure effective, clearly documented handover systems facilitate the seamless transfer of clinical information between shifts, and actively participate in clinical and team meetings. You must thoroughly understand the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) regarding consent and best-interest decision-making. Professional updates must be provided to residents and relatives while remaining strictly mindful of data protection, confidentiality, and Caldicott principles, maintaining a high standard of clinical record keeping under the Health and Social Care Act.
For Safeguarding Adults and the Mental Capacity Act, you will complete required training to confidently implement safeguarding policies, taking responsibility for reporting concerns to the senior person on duty, Registered Manager, or Nominated Individual in line with the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board (NYSAB) frameworks.
Regarding Health and Safety, under the Health and Safety at Work Act, you must take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and others affected by your acts or omissions. You will co-operate with your employer to ensure compliance with legislation and organisational procedures, never misusing equipment provided for welfare, and ensuring adequate measures protect all staff through a well-maintained, safe environment.
You will respect strict confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act. This includes processing electronic and paper care data fairly and lawfully, holding data only for specified purposes, and disclosing it only to authorised parties.
