Job summary

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust's catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. The main towns include: Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys) - all beautiful and unique.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cardiologist looking for a substantive position with a special interest in pacing and devices at our Trust. We are looking to appoint a colleague who is specialised in device implantation including complex pacing, defibrillators and with experience in conduction system pacing. We welcome applications from colleagues who have other areas of interest too. The successful candidate will join an established device service to further expand the service. The Trust is going through an exciting redevelopment at present and is ambitious in its outlook for the Cardiology service. The successful candidate will play a key role in this re-development. In addition, they will join an ambitious and supportive team of colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Diagnosing and treating a wide spectrum of cardiological problems.

Provide continued care both in the inpatient and outpatient setting

Supporting a complex patient MDT including device MDT

Implantation of pacemakers and other devices

Development of the device service to meet unmet needs, and to embrace new technologies

On call commitment at SATH (Cardiology only, no GIM commitment 1:7)

Supervision of Higher Specialty Trainees in Internal Medicine, IMT stage one trainees and Clinical fellows working towards CESR in GIM.

To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team

To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners

To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways

Job description Job responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate, Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week including 1 additional PA for the out of hours work. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.

Qualifications Essential

MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification MRCP or equivalent qualification

Desirable

Device accreditation eg HRS. BHRS, EHRA Higher research degree / Fellowship

Entry Criteria Essential

Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: -Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (or within 6 months) -Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) - GMC evidence of acceptance required at the point of application
