Bolton Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Band 6, Chronic Pain Sister or Charge Nurse (33 hours per week) to join its Chronic Pain Management Service . You will be an integral team member of the Chronic Pain Management service, working alongside multidisciplinary members including Consultants and Allied health care professionals. You will be involved in the running of outpatient based Nurse Led clinics, providing review of various treatment modalities. One of your key roles will be in assisting patients in adopting self-management strategies through advice and education, to support evidenced based practice. Your role will require you to work within Bolton Hospital and also off site within an outpatient primary care setting.

The post will enable you to develop your knowledge and skills within chronic pain management; however, prior experience of working with chronic pain patients is desirable. If you are not already a Non-Medical Prescriber, you will be supported to undertake this qualification and the required Clinical skills course. Additionally, training will be required to enable you to undertake acupuncture by attending the Foundation in Acupuncture course and all development will be enhanced and supported utilising the RCN Pain Knowledge Framework.

Main duties of the job

Following training you will run nurse led telephone review and Acupuncture clinics alongside the other pain management nurses. Therefore you will be required to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing, Clinical skills and Foundation course in Acupuncture. To maintain competence you will be expected to attend formal and informal CPD. It is essential you are motivated to learn and develop within the area of chronic pain.

Patients can be very distressed regards their pain. Therefore excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will work alongside all members of the MDT and expected to observe various interventional procedures undertaken by the Consultants, Clinical Psychology and Specialist Physiotherapy teams to develop your knowledge and experience.

In addition to the clinical role, you will also be involved in the triaging of referrals and liaising with other health care providers to ensure patient care is safe and effective. You will work closely with the service's medical secretary's regards any other administration requirement of the post. Following completion of Non-Medical Prescribing, Clinical Skills and Foundation in Acupuncture courses, observation of interventions and treatments and shadowing other pain management nurses the applicant will run nurse led clinics, liaise with MDT members and other health care providers, attend required CPD and training as well as any appropriate meetings. Promote a pain management approach within current guidance to enable patients to self manage their pain. Be actively involved in audit and assist in any service development projects.
