About this role

Job summary

Scott Arms Medical Centre is looking for a reliable, responsible and hardworking Caretaker to help maintain our new GP practice to a high standard.

This is an important role supporting the day-to-day running of the practice. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the general upkeep, basic maintenance, security and presentation of the building, helping to ensure that it remains a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patients, GPs, clinical staff and visitors.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday:

7:00am 9:00am 6:00pm 8:00pmTotal: 4 hours per day / 20 hours per week

There will also be an expectation of availability 7 nights per week, for occasional night-time emergency call-outs, which will be paid separately.

Weekend availability may also be required from time to time for maintenance, security checks, emergencies or other reasonable caretaker duties. Weekend work will be agreed in advance where possible.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the general care and upkeep of the GP practice.

Main duties of the job

Opening and securing the premises as required. Carrying out regular checks of the building and facilities. Ensuring the practice is clean, tidy, safe and presentable. Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs. Undertaking basic DIY tasks and practical maintenance. Checking doors, windows, locks, lighting, heating and other building facilities. Identifying faults, damage and maintenance issues and reporting them promptly. Ensuring patient and staff areas are maintained to a high standard. Keeping entrances, communal areas and external areas clean and safe. Checking the condition of the grounds and external areas. Managing rubbish and recycling in accordance with practice procedures. Assisting with deliveries and moving equipment, furniture or supplies when required. Monitoring the building for any maintenance or security concerns. Liaising with contractors, tradespeople and service providers when required. Being available for agreed emergency call-outs. Carrying out basic security checks when required. Supporting the practice with general practical tasks. Following all relevant health, safety and infection-control procedures. Always maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Reporting any concerns that could affect the safety of patients, staff or visitors.

The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is Reliable, punctual and trustworthy Practical and confident with general maintenance and DIY Hardworking and takes pride in their work Well organised and able to work independently Friendly, professional and approachable Flexible and willing to respond to occasional urgent issues Comfortable working around patients and healthcare staff Able to identify problems and take appropriate action Responsible and security-conscious Respectful of confidentiality within a medical environment Available for occasional night call-outs and weekend duties when required Previous experience as a caretaker, handyman, maintenance worker, facilities assistant or in a similar position would be an advantage. Experience within a GP practice, medical centre, healthcare setting, office, or other public-facing building would also be desirable.
