About this role

Job summary

Applications are invited for the appointment to a substantive post as Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with special interest in Maternal Medicine, at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The post will comprise 10.0 PA and is non-resident on call.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a friendly and progressive Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. We are looking to recruit someone with ATSM in Maternal Medicine (or equivalent SITMs) to support and develop maternal medicine pathways with our local and regional unit. Our Foetal Medicine Unit, led by a sub-specialist provides a comprehensive range of services for a DGH.

As there is a gynaecological component to the job it would be desirable to have gynaecological skills to support this.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who will help in supporting and developing the Maternal Medicine service. The successful applicant will have a job plan based on 10 PA. You will be expected to manage complex antenatal patients and medical complications of pregnancy and offer a service for acute and elective Obstetrics. There is a gynaecological component to the current job plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will be expected to:

provide high quality patient centred Consultant led obstetrics and gynaecology services. provide a range of clinical services across both obstetrics and gynaecology, including labour ward cover, antenatal clinics, emergency gynaecology, general gynaecology outpatient clinics, and gynaecological surgery sessions. be fully involved with the teaching and training of medical staff within the Department and to work closely with the RCOG College Tutor in this respect. take part in the induction programme for resident medical staff, participate in GP training and teaching of medical students as required. participate in the recruitment of resident medical staff as required. ensure proper delegation to and training of resident medical and nursing staff. participate in the Consultant on call rota, with internal cover. undertake administrative and managerial duties associated with the post including attendance at and contributing to departmental meetings. participate in consultant appraisal, audits and academic events in continuing professional development (CPD) Please see Candidate Pack for further information on the role and about our organisation: https://buckshealthcare.pagetiger.com/obs-and-gynae/obs-and-gynae-maternal-medicine

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Full registration with the GMC Possession of MRCOG or equivalent CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and on GMC's Specialist Register or have a written confirmation of eligibility for Specialist Registration. ATSM Maternal Medicine or SITM equivalent

Desirable

MD or PhD MOET or equivalent within the last 4 years ATSM - Medical Education

Experience and Training Essential

Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to the required for a UK CCT Statement regarding appropriate training and experience including that relating to a specialist skills

Desirable

Evidence of experience in Gynaecological Surgery

Clinical Governance Essential

Evidence of participation in clinical audit Able to support with clinical governance in practice and demonstrate understanding of governance principles

Desirable

Involvement in guideline development Evidence of involvement in a quality improvement project
