About this role

Job summary

18 Week Support is looking for experienced Consultant Ophthalmologists to support NHS Trusts across the UK through our clinically led insourcing services.

This is an opportunity for GMC registered Consultant Ophthalmologists to provide additional clinical capacity within NHS services while working flexibly around their existing commitments.

The successful candidate will work as part of an experienced multidisciplinary clinical team, delivering high quality ophthalmology care and supporting NHS Trusts to manage patient demand and waiting lists.

Sessions and locations will vary according to individual availability and NHS Trust requirements. Our team will support you throughout the registration, compliance and onboarding process.

Main duties of the job

Provide Consultant level ophthalmology services within NHS Trust settings

Conduct outpatient ophthalmology clinics and assess patients referred for specialist care

Undertake appropriate clinical examinations investigations and diagnostic assessments

Develop and document appropriate management and treatment plans

Provide follow up and ongoing clinical management where required

Identify patients requiring further investigation treatment or referral

Work collaboratively with ophthalmologists optometrists nurses healthcare professionals and administrative teams

Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with NHS and professional standards

Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues ensuring patients are fully informed about their care

Maintain high standards of patient safety clinical governance and confidentiality

Support NHS Trusts in managing ophthalmology waiting lists and increasing clinical capacity

Participate in service delivery in accordance with agreed clinical protocols and Trust requirements

The successful candidate will provide high quality Consultant level ophthalmology care and will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team to support NHS services and increase clinical capacity

The role will involve assessing and managing patients attending ophthalmology services conducting clinical examinations reviewing investigations developing appropriate treatment plans and providing follow up care where required

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high standards of patient care clinical governance and professional practice while working in accordance with NHS Trust policies and relevant professional standards

This role offers flexible clinical sessions with opportunities available according to NHS Trust requirements and the consultants availability

18 Week Support will provide support throughout the registration compliance and onboarding process

Qualifications Essential

GMC registered with a licence to practise Primary medical qualification CCT or equivalent in Ophthalmology Relevant specialist training in Ophthalmology Evidence of continuing professional development Current or recent NHS experience at Consultant level Relevant ophthalmology experience
