Job Description: The Tax Accountant – Tax Accounting & Income Tax Compliance supports the quarterly and annual income tax provision process and assists with federal, state, and local income and franchise tax compliance

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 • Calculate current and deferred income tax expense for U.S., federal, state, local, and foreign jurisdictions • Prepare and analyze effective tax rate (ETR) calculations, rate reconciliations, and supporting schedules • Identify, analyze, and document book/tax differences (IRS Schedule M-3 information) • Assess the realizability of deferred tax assets and develop valuation allowance analyses • Calculate and document uncertain tax positions (UTPS) in accordance with ASC 740-10 (FIN 48) • Prepare tax account reconciliations and supporting documentation for statutory reporting requirements • Assist in the preparation of the consolidated federal income tax return, and prepare and file state income tax returns, including preparing proper documentation for tax positions • Assist in the analysis of the tax impact of strategic tax initiatives, changes in federal and state tax legislation, as well as research of tax positions as required • Identify and implement process changes to improve efficiencies across income tax areas EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent degree; CPA, Master of Taxation, or JD a plus • Three to five years of federal and state tax compliance experience • Exposure to ASC 740 tax provision calculations preferred • Strong understanding of tax accounting rules under GAAP • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Team player • Willingness to learn • Ability to work effectively remotely • Experience with tax research software (CCH IntelliConnect and/or RIA Checkpoint) • Strong Microsoft Excel skills • Corptax experience preferred At United States Steel Corporation, our strength is our people.
