Engineering Manager IV
Job Summary: General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Space System Engineering Manager working on satellite systems to join our team located in Englewood, CO. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • This position typically reports to a senior technical manager and is responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of one or more significant engineering unit(s). • Directs all phases of assigned engineering project(s) from inception through completion. • Responsibilities may require the integration of multiple disciplines and departments. • Collaborates with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit(s). • May also contribute to the development of annual and long-term objectives for the Division/Group. Objectives are typically accomplished through subordinate engineering managers. • May be responsible for decisions that have an extended impact on outcomes where erroneous decisions could result in critical delays and modifications to projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Direct all activities for engineering project(s) including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and financial objectives are attained. • Develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, and business objectives for the space system engineering team. • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by directing and participating in the planning, selection, retention, and development of staff as well as the selection, training and implementation of engineering tools. • Lead mission, system and operational concept development for satellite missions for the space segments • Oversee and participate in the system level design of space systems across all phases of projects, requirement analysis, sensitivity analysis, mission analysis, and design trade-offs. • Oversee and participate in the system level design of small satellites for bid and proposals, product development and satellite operations. • Lead and apply system engineering principles to the selection and design of subsystems and components. • Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve engineering problems. • Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions. • Prepare technical responses to bids, presentation materials and reports, for a variety of applications and customers. • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s). • Liaise with customer and supplier staff, and staff from other parts of GA. • Participate in technology roadmap development. • Participate with Group management in pursuing business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the space systems. • Oversee the development of and ensure the security of the unit's proprietary technology, and maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. • Perform others duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications: • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. • Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as comprehensive project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones. • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems. • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives. • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required. • A Professional Engineering License, and original work(s) published in professional engineering journals are desirable. • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required. • An active DoD security clearance is required; a TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
