Job Description: BAE Systems is seeking an experienced leader for a team in a production environment supporting a US Navy customer. This position supports development and promulgation of US Navy Strategic Weapon System Fleet Documentation supporting SSBN and SSGN submarine platforms and shore support facilities, defense contractors, and Strategic Systems Programs.

As a member of the Operations and Maintenance team you will work with other supervisors, subject matter experts, and oversee an Editorial/Technologist team responsible for authoring electronic documentation, entering and editing technical documents, and technical procedural manuals such as: Strategic Weapons and Attack Weapons System Standard Maintenance documents, Operating Procedures, Corrective Maintenance Procedures and related documentation to include but not limited to, governing documents, correspondence, document technical specifications. electronic workflows and work instructions. Technical documentation development will include querying external and internal subject matter experts to extract technical information and format using MIL-STD 38784 DoD Standard Practice, General Style and Format Requirements For Technical Manuals.

Duties may also include representing BAE Systems at fleet, government, and contractor liaison meetings, direct interface with our customers and with internal management, coordination of production and distribution schedules, and managing various production tasks including printing, assembling, packaging, and distributing both paper and electronic documentation packages. The supervisor will also conduct regular reviews of team performance and develop/use a disciplined set of processes to ensure quality objectives within acceptable thresholds. This position requires maintaining an effective working relationship with the U.S. Navy customer and various contractors providing related maintenance documentation products or engineering services to SSBN and SSGN platforms.

About the program Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy’s PAE Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program’s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation’s nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Required Skills and Education: Education and years of related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years work experience or equivalent education and related/relevant work experience. • Experience and success in leading small teams of 5 – 6 personnel to include: Goal-Setting, Performance Evaluation, Conflict Resolution, Task Planning, etc • Familiarity with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, portion markings, and creation) • Strong interpersonal skills, must be able to coordinate with all staff levels and across all departments to produce timely, high quality documentation • Knowledge of project management disciplines to include: Project Planning/Management, Requirements Identification, Cost and Schedule Estimation, Configuration Management, Data Collection and Analysis, Risk Development and Management, Key Performance Indicators, and Metrics Capturing • Possess experience in documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Adobe [InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat Professional], Microsoft Office Suite Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, Arbortext, Vulcan, XML text editing, S1000D, etc. • Experience with electronic documentation distribution • Experience with development, maintenance, and/or improvement of complex processes • Experience speaking in a public forum • Experience functioning as a virtual team leader collaborating with other team members to meet strict project timelines • Demonstrated experience monitoring and controlling execution schedules with resource balancing maintaining deadlines • Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the team members and the customer • Ability to interpret and incorporate Trouble Failure Report/Corrective Action Report documentation changes into paper-based and electronic manuals • Experience applying critical thinking skills in a team environment on a process improvement project • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail • Ability to perform documentation coordination and production activities with specific attention to detail and accuracy • Familiarity with Cyber Security and Information Assurance concepts that could be applied to documentation development • Must be able to lift minimum of 20 lbs

Preferred Skills and Education: • BS/BA Degree associated with technical writing • Knowledge of the TRIDENT II Strategic Weapon System (SWS) and/or Attack Weapon System (AWS) programs • Awareness of U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Program organization and key staff • Experience with documentation configuration management • Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering skills and toolsets
