The Principal Metrology Engineer serves as the enterprise technical authority for metrology strategy, dimensional measurement systems, GD&T/ASME standards, qualification fixtures, and equipment qualification across GE Appliances. This role provides principal-level technical leadership for the integration of metrology into new product introduction (NPI), current production, supplier qualification, and long-term manufacturing technology roadmaps.

The Principal Metrology Engineer establishes and advances enterprise standards, measurement strategies, supplier capabilities, and measurement system alignment to improve launch readiness, reduce cost of poor quality, increase measurement capability, and accelerate time to market. This position partners extensively with Design, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Quality, plant operations, suppliers, and business leadership to resolve complex technical challenges and establish sustainable, scalable solutions.

The role is also responsible for identifying and evaluating emerging metrology technologies, industry standards, supplier capabilities, and manufacturing quality practices. Through external benchmarking, industry engagement, and technology development, the Principal Metrology Engineer ensures GEA's metrology practices remain current, competitive, and positioned for future manufacturing needs.

As a principal technical leader, this individual mentors engineers, technicians, laboratory teams, and cross-functional partners; influences decisions without direct authority; develops technical standards and roadmaps; and represents the voice of Quality and Metrology with suppliers and business leadership.

1st shift is the primary shift supported; occasional support may be required during weekends, 2nd shift, or 3rd shift. How You'll Create Possibilities

• Serve as the enterprise technical authority for dimensional metrology, measurement systems, GD&T, qualification fixtures, equipment qualification, and dimensional analysis. • Establish and execute a long-term metrology strategy aligned with business, manufacturing, quality, and technology objectives. • Develop, deploy, and govern enterprise standards, procedures, technical requirements, and best practices for metrology across manufacturing sites. • Define measurement strategies that ensure design intent is effectively translated into manufacturing processes, quality plans, inspection methods, and production controls. • Provide principal-level technical leadership on complex measurement, dimensional, tooling, fixture, and equipment qualification challenges. • Lead cross-functional technical decisions involving GD&T interpretation, measurement capability, fixture strategy, tolerance requirements, inspection methods, and launch risk. • Partner with Design, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Quality, plant operations, suppliers, and business leadership to establish common approaches and resolve high-impact technical issues. • Develop technical roadmaps and investment proposals for metrology equipment, digital measurement systems, automation, data infrastructure, and emerging technologies. • Drive measurable improvements in launch readiness, measurement capability, equipment qualification timing, supplier performance, repeatability, and cost of poor quality. NPI & Launch Readiness

• Serve as the metrology technical leader across NPI programs, ensuring new products, components, tooling, and manufacturing processes have robust and sustainable measurement strategies. • Own and advance the measurement system alignment process within iNPI, including standards, checklists, supplier expectations, qualification requirements, and supporting work instructions. • Establish metrology requirements and technical tollgates within NPI and change-control processes to identify measurement risks early. • Provide technical guidance for development, procurement, qualification, and implementation of metrology equipment, fixtures, gages, and dimensional analysis processes. • Ensure measurement strategies appropriately reflect product design intent, GD&T requirements, manufacturing processes, and quality risks. • Partner with suppliers and internal teams to ensure measurement capability is established and validated prior to production launch. • Identify systemic opportunities to improve qualification processes, reduce launch risk, and accelerate time to market. Current Production & Systemic Problem Solving

• Apply advanced metrology and manufacturing expertise to complex production, PCTO, C-change, and supplier-related issues where dimensional variation, drawing interpretation, or measurement capability impacts business performance. • Lead root-cause investigations involving dimensional variation, tooling, fixtures, measurement systems, and process capability. • Establish robust processes for reviewing production and qualification data to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for improvement. • Improve the translation of engineering requirements into MCPs, MCIs, FRMs, quality plans, control methods, and production measurement strategies. • Use measurement and production data to improve drawings, tolerancing strategies, manufacturing processes, and long-term process capability. • Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to improve measurement system effectiveness, repeatability, reproducibility, and overall confidence in dimensional data. • Identify opportunities to standardize successful metrology solutions across plants and product lines. Digital Metrology & Advanced Technology

• Lead the strategic deployment and continuous improvement of digital metrology technologies, including ADS, PolyWorks, Dataloop, in-process/in-situ scanning, and advanced dimensional data collection systems. • Evaluate emerging measurement technologies and determine their applicability to manufacturing, quality, tooling, and NPI needs. • Develop business cases, funding proposals, implementation strategies, and technology roadmaps for enterprise metrology investments. • Identify opportunities to leverage dimensional data, digital inspection, automation, and analytics to improve manufacturing process control and decision-making. • Explore opportunities to integrate metrology data with tooling feedback, FEA/simulation, manufacturing systems, and quality databases. • Serve as the business technical architect for the Dataloop Web Interface (DLWI), including: • * Security and access requirements • * Piece and project property management • * Multi-device configuration standards • * Dashboard strategy • * Dataloop Forms adoption • * Governance and system standards • * Long-term upgrade and deployment planning • Standards, Training & Organizational Capability • Own enterprise deployment of GD&T, ASME, dimensional analysis, metrology, and measurement-system best practices across the Quality organization. • Develop and maintain technical standards, training curricula, evaluation methods, and certification expectations for metrology systems and processes. • Establish consistent enterprise practices for holding fixtures, gage development, drawing tolerance guidelines, equipment qualification, measurement methods, and metrology work-order execution. • Coach and mentor engineers, laboratory technicians, site metrology teams, and cross-functional partners to strengthen technical capability and knowledge retention. • Develop technical communities of practice that promote knowledge sharing and consistency across manufacturing locations. • Serve as a technical resource for complex GD&T, dimensional analysis, measurement strategy, and equipment qualification decisions. • Identify organizational capability gaps and develop training, staffing, technology, or process recommendations to address them. Supplier Development & External Engagement

• Represent Quality and Metrology with key equipment, tooling, and measurement-system suppliers. • Establish technical expectations for supplier metrology capability, equipment qualification, measurement methods, and data quality. • Evaluate supplier capabilities through technical reviews, assessments, surveys, and equipment run-offs. • Develop supplier development plans that improve measurement capability, launch readiness, and long-term performance. • Benchmark external manufacturing and metrology practices to identify opportunities for GEA improvement. • Maintain active engagement with industry organizations, standards bodies, equipment suppliers, conferences, benchmarking networks, and technology forums. • Monitor evolving ANSI, ISO, ASME, GD&T, digital manufacturing, dimensional metrology, and measurement-system practices. • Translate relevant external developments into practical GEA standards, processes, technology investments, and capability improvements.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

• Extensive experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to influence outcomes across multiple sites, functions, suppliers, and leadership levels. • Deep technical expertise in dimensional metrology, manufacturing equipment, measurement systems, dimensional analysis, equipment qualification, and process control. • Demonstrated ability to establish technical standards, develop roadmaps, mentor technical talent, and lead complex cross-functional initiatives. • Demonstrated ability to evaluate emerging technologies, industry practices, supplier capabilities, and evolving standards and translate them into practical business improvements. • Proven ability to lead through influence and establish alignment among technical, operational, and business stakeholders. • Demonstrated experience solving complex manufacturing and quality problems using data-driven analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies. • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Metrology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline. • Significant engineering experience with increasing levels of technical responsibility in manufacturing quality, metrology, NPI, equipment qualification, dimensional engineering, or a related field. • Advanced leadership, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to effectively engage engineers, suppliers, plant leadership, and senior stakeholders without direct authority. • Expert understanding of technical drawings, Model-Based Definition (MBD), GD&T, ASME standards, linear dimensions, geometric tolerances, measurement intent, and translation of design requirements into manufacturing and quality plans. • Demonstrated ability to create, deploy, and govern technical standards, procedures, processes, and enterprise-level improvements. • Strong project planning, stakeholder alignment, risk management, and execution skills. • Highly data-driven with demonstrated ability to interpret complex measurement and production data to identify root causes, trends, and opportunities
