Job Summary The Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations under the direction of a Radiologist. This position performs imaging across various body planes to produce high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation. Sonographic examinations may include, but are not limited to, abdominal, vascular, non-pregnant pelvic, and small-parts imaging. The Ultrasonographer provides patient-centered care throughout the imaging process, recognizes changes in patient condition that may require immediate intervention, initiates appropriate life-support measures when necessary, and supports efficient patient flow and timely completion of studies. Essential Job Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and applicable accreditation standards. • Produce diagnostic images with appropriate resolution, penetration, anatomical coverage, and visualization of the area of interest. • Maintain productivity and complete an appropriate volume of examinations consistent with departmental expectations. • Follow Universal Protocol and hospital policies for applicable procedures. • Verify that required consent documentation is accurately completed before invasive procedures. • Maintain accurate electronic and manual patient, departmental, and hospital records. • Complete required data entry, documentation, and related clerical responsibilities. • Identify, document, and resolve examination or workflow exceptions as appropriate. • Perform and document equipment and sonographer quality-control activities in accordance with departmental and accreditation requirements. • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or environmental concerns to appropriate leadership, maintenance, or engineering personnel. • Monitor patients throughout the imaging process and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or emergency situations. • Notify appropriate clinical personnel when immediate patient intervention is required. • Work collaboratively with physicians, clinical staff, and departmental team members to support departmental goals. • Provide practical instruction and support to students and other team members as appropriate. Minimum Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required. • Successful completion of a one-year Diagnostic Medical Sonography program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Licensure / Certification Requirements Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) at the time of hire in either Abdomen or OB/GYN, with an 18-month contingency to obtain registration in both specialties; OR • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – Sonography [ARRT(S)]. Required Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound principles, procedures, and imaging protocols. • Ability to consistently produce diagnostic-quality sonographic images. • Proficiency with Metricide testing and knowledge of appropriate ultrasound probe sterilization processes. • Proficiency using PACS and EPIC. • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately during emergency situations. • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities. • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and decision-making. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. • Ability to function effectively in high-stress and time-sensitive clinical situations.
