About this role
Responsible for assisting in all facets of the timely and accurate pay processing operations of a multi-state, multi-company payroll department supporting over 200,000 associates in the Stores, Distribution Centers and at the Store Support Center (SSC) in both US and Canada. Assists in training junior payroll associates and provides support with specialized payroll areas. Utilize relevant reporting tools to maximize efficiency of processes, accuracy of data and to develop relevant Payroll KPIs (key performance indicators). Work closely with the other Team Lead to help manage the daily workflows of the Payroll department. Performs duties of Payroll Processing Manager in his/her absence.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Accurately processes all facets of payroll for management companies, DC’s and assists with store processing including time adjustments, entries, bonus and special payments within required timeframes
• Responsible for maintaining payroll policies that comply with state and federal regulations
• Responsible for adhering to internal controls, including SOX compliance
• Processes bi-weekly Canadian and/or U.S. payroll to include run sheet activity, transmission of payroll files to ADP and banking institutions, ensuring validation and accuracy through utilization of queries/reports.
• Imports timekeeping from Kronos and Compass systems
• Provides support and assists in training of more junior payroll associates
• Provides customer service via phone and email. Goal is to work 30-50 emails per day.
• Provides analysis and reporting of Off-cycle Volume for monthly Metrics reporting
• Ensure accuracy of payroll processing SOP’s (standard operating procedures). Documents new SOP’s as needed
• Liaise with internal and external Auditors and Legal partners, assisting as necessary and providing any required Information and documentation
• Interest in learning new skills and platforms as needed for new projects. Assist as required with system testing/upgrade requirements.
• Assist the Payroll Manager and Director with special projects
• Leadership ability to partner effectively with team members and business partners
• Other duties as required by management
Minimum Requirements/Qualification - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.
• Multi-state payroll processing experience
• Working knowledge of FLSA rules and overtime calculations
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret, reason, read, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, coordinate, compile, instruct, and maintain emotional control during highly stressful times.
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work in a high-volume processing center
• Ability to handle confidential information discreetly
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
Desired Qualifications - Desired but not required.
• 2-5 years payroll experience
• Payroll certification (CPP or FPC)
• Lawson application payroll experience a plus
• Workday HCM/Payroll experience a plus
