Our people make all the difference in our success. The Birthplace Technician coordinates the surgical scrub duties to care for patients in the Birthplace unit. Working under close supervision, this role supports the surgical team through routine work related to managing equipment and spaces, performing routine checks, and documenting patient information.

Essential Job Function:

• Observes and reports any changes noted in a patient's condition in order for the circulating nurse to alter the treatment plan accordingly. • Coordinates equipment by counting, checking, and obtaining sterile medical supplies in the labor and delivery and operating rooms so that physicians are prepared for any procedure or surgery. • Documents intraoperative and intrapartum care so that accurate hospital data records are completed. • Assists the circulating nurse by identifying, labelling, and preserving surgical specimens for future study. • Utilizes communication devices, including phones, patient call lights, and pagers in order to serve as a liaison with the public as needed. • Collaborates with colleagues on strategies to accomplish the given department or program objectives. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology or equivalent military training with surgical technologist experience.

Experience:

• Required: 1 year

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

• Required: Certified Surgical Technologist or Certification eligible. Certifications should come from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Must successfully sit and pass Certification examination within 12 months from employment hire/start date. For Surgical Technologist hired prior to 12/31/2017, certification requirement will be waived. BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
