Position Title: Certification Manager Department: Inverter Firmware Compensation: $87,000 - $135,000 + annual bonus Reports To: Director of Digital Inverter Firmware Location: Kitchener, ON (onsite)

Who You Are

You are a certification and compliance leader who thrives on bringing complex power electronics and energy products to market. You understand how standards, grid codes, safety requirements, controls, firmware, and validation all come together to create a certified product. Comfortable working with engineering teams, test laboratories, certification bodies, and customers, you know how to turn regulatory requirements into actionable plans, identify risks before they become problems, and drive products from concept to approval. Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to help build the next generation of North American inverter, PCS, and BESS technology that will shape the future of the grid.

Who We Are CS Digital is a digital technology startup focused on providing state-of-the-art digital technology for power solutions. Our first goal is to build a North American based inverter control board, firmware and energy station controller for the BESS industry to compliment Canadian Solar’s String Power Conversion System Medium Voltage Skid for the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry.

The Role As Certification Manager, you will own the certification, compliance, and grid-code strategy for the next generation of North American inverter, PCS, and energy storage technologies. Acting as the bridge between engineering innovation and market approval, you will lead products from concept through certification, ensuring hardware, firmware, and control systems meet global safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with controls, firmware, hardware, validation, quality, manufacturing, and third-party certification bodies to translate complex standards into actionable engineering requirements, drive testing and issue resolution, manage compliance risk, and deliver products that can be confidently deployed on utility-scale projects worldwide. This role is critical to shaping the future of CS Digital's technology platform and enabling the successful commercialization of industry-leading BESS and power conversion solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Lead certification planning and execution for PCS, inverter control boards, firmware, energy station controllers, and related BESS products.

• Build the certification roadmap, including standards scope, test plans, lab engagement, documentation, schedule, risks, and approval milestones.

• Interpret UL, IEC, CSA, IEEE, NEC/NFPA, and regional grid-code requirements and convert them into engineering and validation actions.

• Coordinate submissions, construction reviews, witness testing, corrective actions, and final reports with NRTLs, labs, consultants, suppliers, and internal teams.

• Maintain traceability among requirements, HIL/lab test results, firmware releases, and certification submission packages.

• Prepare and review compliance matrices, technical files, test reports, manuals, declarations, product labels, and evidence folders.

• Support design reviews for electrical safety, protection functions, grid support functions, thermal limits, cybersecurity readiness, environmental ratings, and labeling.

• Define pre-certification test procedure with controls, firmware, and HIL teams.

• Track risks, non-conformances, deviations, corrective actions, and product-change impacts through development and release cycles.

• Support customer, utility, and regulatory questions related to compliance evidence, certification status, and standards applicability.

Core Competencies & Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of certification workflows for power electronics, grid-connected inverters, PCS, or BESS products.

• Working experience of UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9540A, IEEE 1547/1547.1, IEEE 2800, IEC 62477, IEC 62109, IEC 61000, CSA, NEC/NFPA.

• Ability to translate standards into practical design, test, documentation, and release criteria.

• Hands-on experience with testing equipment such as grid simulators, power analyzers, load banks, data acquisition tools, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.

• Hands-on test set up, conducting certification tests and data processing.

• Understanding of inverter architectures, PCS, MV skids, BESS, grid support functions, protection logic, and product safety concepts.

• Experience working with NRTLs, certification bodies, external labs, consultants, and cross-functional engineering teams.

• Strong discipline in compliance matrices, technical files, test evidence, requirement traceability, and change-impact assessments.

• Familiarity with firmware release control, validation workflows, HIL/lab testing, issue tracking, and engineering change management.

• Excellent project management, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree or compliance training is preferred.

• 5+ years of experience in certification, compliance engineering, power electronics, grid-connected inverters, BESS, PCS, or industrial electrical equipment.

• Experience managing certification projects with third-party labs, NRTLs, certification bodies, or regulatory authorities.

• Experience with UL, IEC, CSA, IEEE, NEC/NFPA, or utility/grid-interconnection requirements.

• Experience with construction reviews, lab testing, corrective actions, certification reports, and technical file preparation.

• Hands-on exposure to inverter, PCS, BESS, controls, firmware, protection, or system-validation activities is strongly preferred.

• Ability to work with multiple teams including firmware, controls, hardware, systems, quality, manufacturing, suppliers, and field-support.

• Strong analytical, organization, communication skills with ownership mindset.
