The Co-Responder serves as a key liaison between behavioral health services and local law enforcement agencies. This role provides crisis assessments, intervention services, care coordination, and consultation to support individuals who come to the attention of law enforcement due to behavioral health concerns. The Co-Responder works collaboratively with community partners, courts, service providers, and emergency response systems to promote access to care, stabilization, and continuity of services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies by providing timely behavioral health support and consultation within designated police departments. • Complete crisis screenings, assessments, interventions, and intake evaluations for individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges in community and correctional settings. • Coordinate behavioral health services and develop effective systems of care for individuals who come to the attention of law enforcement. • Assist individuals in accessing recommended treatment services and facilitate follow-up care when needed. • Provide brief therapeutic interventions to promote stabilization and arrange next-day or ongoing services as appropriate. • Support law enforcement and court personnel in locating psychiatric placement options and assisting with involuntary detention processes when necessary. • Participate in Crisis Intervention Teams, specialty courts, diversion courts, and other collaborative community initiatives. • Communicate and coordinate with service providers to ensure continuity of care for individuals currently receiving services. • Deliver behavioral health training, consultation, and educational support to law enforcement agencies and personnel as requested. • Maintain effective working relationships with community partners, referral sources, emergency systems, and internal service teams. • Document interventions, assessments, referrals, and services in accordance with agency standards and regulatory requirements. • Provide brief clinical support and resource referrals to law enforcement officers when appropriate.

Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or related field required. • Master’s degree preferred. • Minimum one year of experience working in the behavioral health field required. • Experience providing crisis intervention services preferred. • Experience collaborating with law enforcement agencies preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass a background check as required by the police department. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement, healthcare providers, courts, and community partners. • Strong communication, crisis intervention, assessment, and relationship-building skills. • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.
