Job Summary

Manage the (Region portfolio) construction of multiple large and smaller projects with a total budget of $500 million to $1 billion or more. Provide guidance, instruction, training, and effective communications to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, and economical manner to achieve short- and long-range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction and profit performance. Direct the execution of Regional Transmission projects and support the planning, scheduling, outage development and construction effort in conjunction with the Project Management group. Integrate and support the overall project goals and objectives established with the project management planning process with training, development, documentation, and communication. Provide leadership, develop partnerships, and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers (Operating Company teams, Trans Engineering and Project Management), external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, labor, governmental agencies, and industry peers. Provide support and guidance in evaluation of contractor performance regarding safety and quality. Provide support in the progress and development of direct reports, which includes AEP and Contract personnel. Engage with other CM department leadership members to align goals and define areas for improvement. Manage compliance in accordance with AEP Regulations. Job Description

What you’ll do:

• Provide management, direction, and leadership to the Regional CM Team for multiple construction projects and is responsible for planning and directing the activities associated with the safe and effective execution of all projects assigned in region. • Coach and influence the progress and development of department employees with education of AEP & Departmental culture, safety, and strategic goals, as well as providing focus and guidance on departmental knowledge expansion and performance. • Development of capital plans to assess risk, resource planning and high-level work planning/schedules/feasibility. Assess regional projects schedules short and long term for internal resource planning. • Possess a passion for Safety while influencing the CM team to hold AEP employees and contractors accountable for AEP Safety Requirements, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Zero Harm". This includes, but not limited to performing site visits, evaluation of observations quality/expectations, and participation in incident reviews. Discuss with contractor leadership the adhering of our safety terms and conditions for continuous improvement. • Oversee, review, and coordinate construction work activities including project plan, scope, schedule, construction labor staffing, reporting and effectively communicate construction project details and status reports. Communicate with PM, TFS, Contractor Management accordingly to complete project in an efficient and timely manner. • Support new technology, applications, process changes, and training, as well as providing guidance, to improve schedules, designs, systems, procedures, and costs. • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction issues. • Provide input into the preparation of budget estimates, workforce staffing and workforce planning. • Ensure understanding, and monitor compliance to - Federal, State, Local, and AEP compliance obligations. • Advocate for departmental and inter-departmental change and remove barriers. Collaborate with department leadership to develop partnerships/relationships with Operating Companies, Transmission Engineering & Project Services, TFS, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and government agencies. • Interface with and is accountable to Project Management and (Energy Delivery) Transmission Management to assure that project targets and goals pertaining to safety, scope, schedule, quality, cost control, and project plan execution are met or exceeded. • Support Project Management to improve schedule, design, systems, procedures, and cost for continuous improvement. Support and participate in bid evaluations. • Assist with the Contractor qualification/approval and selection processes to Ensure proper contractor selection for projects. • Confirm CM expectations are being met by ensuring (QAQC) work to monitor and ensure safety and environmental policies are being followed and that project is being constructed per the specifications, engineered drawings, and permits. Be an advocate for construction quality assurance. • Support Regional Storm Restoration efforts and emergencies that require CM and contractor labor support. • Support extra duties and committees assigned by Managing Director. What we’re looking for: Transmission Construction Manager SG10 Education:

• Bachelor of Science degree (or Associate's degree with equivalent experience) in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field of study Experience:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, • Or 10 years of experience with an Associate's degree, including work in one or more of the following areas: major construction projects, project management, Transmission engineering, or Transmission operations. • 3–5 years of experience as a Transmission Construction Superintendent, Project Manager, or supervisor in a related role is strongly preferred. • Experience as a Site Construction Manager or in an equivalent role overseeing large projects is a plus. In addition:

• The Construction Manager is to direct and coordinate the measurement and evaluation of projects and to effectively manage several Transmission capital projects in a safe, efficient, and economical manner to achieve short- and long-range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction and profitable performance. • Key qualifications and traits required for this position are as follows: • Provide effective leadership, team building and meeting management. • Demonstrate a high-level of confidence in the ability to lead a team and a project to successful conclusion. • Effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with all stakeholders including team members, sponsors, management, and senior management. • Maintain an economic and business acumen with an understanding of the Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction and Startup procedures and processes and with a working knowledge of applicable Project Management tools and techniques. • Provide strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment and prioritization of project activities. Globally view the projects from all angles such as constructability, sequence, changing conditions, contingencies, contractual, predictability, level of priority, sense of direction and sense of productivity to quickly identify and to avoid or to mitigate project risks. • Provide organization of project activities, to delegate project task assignments, to confidently set team requirements, expectations, to manage deliverables and to hold team members accountable. • Effectively manage conflict to resolve disputes and to maximize synergy, with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company. • Possess an understanding of scope management and AEP O&M vs. Capital policies. • Evaluate and determine the skill sets and capabilities of team members to ensure projects successes. · • Demonstrate accountability for project assignments. • Seek input from Subject Matter Experts by asking the right questions, understanding the nuances and by clarifying and validating information and not by relying on one’s own knowledge base of assumptions. • Willingness to Confront Tough Issues: Challenge differing opinions in an effective way.
