JOB DESCRIPTION: Director, Advanced Imaging and Clinical Intelligence – Haifa, Israel

In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) division, we're advancing the treatment of heart rhythm disorders through breakthrough technologies that enable physicians to deliver safer, more effective therapies and improve patient outcomes. The Director, Advanced Imaging and Clinical Intelligence will lead Abbott EP's imaging innovation efforts from our Haifa, Israel location, serving as a strategic technology leader responsible for defining and advancing the future of image-guided electrophysiology ablation and structural heart procedures. This role will establish the long-term technology vision for Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE) and related imaging modalities, including Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and CT, while driving the execution of Abbott's AI-enabled imaging strategy. Working extensively with physicians, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, and industry partners, this leader will identify unmet clinical needs, create breakthrough imaging concepts, and develop novel technologies that automate clinical workflows, unlock new procedural insights, and enable the next generation of intelligent EP procedures. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary research and innovation team focused on exploratory technologies spanning advanced ultrasound imaging, computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image-guided therapy, anatomical modeling, workflow automation, and procedural intelligence. This role will be accountable for advancing technologies from concept through technology maturation and successful transfer into product development programs. This highly visible leadership position will help establish Abbott as the industry leader in imaging-driven clinical intelligence for electrophysiology procedures while building a robust intellectual property portfolio and fostering a world-class imaging innovation ecosystem.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology Strategy and Innovation Leadership
• Define and drive Abbott EP's long-term technology roadmap for advanced imaging solutions supporting electrophysiology procedures. • Establish and execute the strategic vision for AI-enabled imaging and clinical intelligence, focused on improving procedural efficiency, physician decision-making, and patient outcomes. • Identify emerging technologies, market trends, and disruptive innovations that can create competitive advantages for Abbott EP. • Lead exploratory research programs investigating next-generation imaging, computer vision, machine learning, procedural guidance, workflow automation, anatomical reconstruction, and clinical insight generation. • Evaluate and cultivate new technology opportunities that align with the future needs of EP physicians and patients.
Clinical and Customer Engagement
• Build strong partnerships with global Key Opinion Leaders, electrophysiologists, imaging specialists, and healthcare institutions to identify unmet clinical needs and emerging workflow challenges. • Translate physician insights and clinical observations into technology strategies, research programs, and innovation investments. • Serve as a recognized technical authority and thought leader in imaging-guided electrophysiology, structural heart, and clinical intelligence.
Research, AI, and Clinical Intelligence
• Lead the development and execution of AI strategies for imaging applications. • Guide research teams in developing algorithms and solutions for image interpretation, anatomical modeling, segmentation, visualization, workflow automation, procedural guidance, and clinical insight generation. • Drive the integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision technologies into future EP and SH workflows. • Champion data-driven approaches that enable automation, reduce procedural complexity, and improve physician productivity.
External Innovation and Partnerships
• Establish and maintain strategic collaborations with universities, research institutions, start-ups, technology partners, and innovation ecosystems. • Identify, evaluate, and manage external technology partnerships that accelerate Abbott's imaging and AI capabilities. • Foster a culture of innovation that promotes breakthrough thinking, scientific rigor, and business impact. • Drive the creation and protection of intellectual property through invention disclosures, patents, publications, and strategic technology differentiation.
Technology Development and Product Transfer
• Lead technology incubation efforts from concept through feasibility, validation, and technology maturation. • Ensure successful transition of research innovations into product development organizations through Abbott's Technology Development Process. • Partner closely with product development, systems engineering, clinical, regulatory, quality, and product management teams to maximize adoption and impact of new technologies. • Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the innovation lifecycle.
Leadership and Organizational Development
• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of imaging scientists, engineers, algorithm developers, and innovation leaders. • Attract, retain, and mentor top technical talent within the imaging and AI domains. • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven culture focused on solving meaningful clinical challenges. • Communicate technology strategies, research progress, investment recommendations, and business opportunities to executive leadership.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical discipline. • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in advanced technology development, research, and innovation. • Demonstrated experience developing and executing technology strategy in imaging, medical devices, artificial intelligence, computer vision, or related fields. • Proven track record leading multidisciplinary teams engaged in advanced research and technology incubation. • Strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: • Medical imaging • Ultrasound systems • Computer vision • Artificial intelligence and machine learning • Experience translating early-stage technologies into commercial product development programs.
• Demonstrated success developing intellectual property portfolios, including patents and invention disclosures. • Strong executive communication and influencing skills with experience presenting to senior leadership. • Experience building and managing external partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and technology collaborators. • Strong systems thinking and ability to connect clinical needs with technology innovation opportunities.
Preferred
• Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field. • Experience in electrophysiology, structural heart, cardiovascular imaging, or image-guided interventions. • Deep understanding of Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE), ultrasound imaging systems, and cardiac anatomy. • Experience applying AI and machine learning to medical imaging applications. • Knowledge of regulatory considerations for AI-enabled medical devices. • Track record of establishing successful innovation programs and research collaborations. • Demonstrated success developing technologies that improve physician workflows and procedural outcomes. • Recognized industry, academic, or technical leadership within imaging, AI, or medical device communities.
