SFJAZZ is seeking an experienced, hands on Stage Manager. The SFJAZZ Stage Manager, On-Call position provides crucial on-site support to SFJAZZ Artistic, Education and Rental departments under the supervision of the Director of Production and Technical Director.
Additionally, the Stage Manager provides the SFJAZZ Technical Staff and Artist Assistants with direction through load-in, soundcheck, show, and strike. This position requires knowledge of production terminology, departmental structures, safety, and common protocols within the live performance and corporate event industries.
The ideal candidate possesses a high level of organizational and time management skills, while demonstrating experience supervising staff and calling technical cues for a performance or event.
This role also assists the Production Manager in ensuring the schedule and technical requirements of a performance or event are met.
Requirements:
• Review and manage performance or event schedules
• Ensure all in-house staging, safety, and show protocol policies are enforced
• Provide a consistent presence on stage and be available to Production and Artists’ staff
• Work closely with the Production Manager and Technical Personnel
• Liaise with talent and stakeholders to resolve issues and fulfill onstage requests
• Communicate performance information to the House Manager, Security or other personnel
• Assist the technical crew with stage set-up, placing stage dressing, setting backline and risers
• Operate theatrical equipment, such as A/V and lighting controls, intercoms, etc.
• Call technical cues (audio, video, lighting, etc.) before and during events
• Manage backstage areas during events
• Submit Stage Manager reports post-show
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• 2+ Years working in musical, theatrical or corporate stage management
• Experience working with artists and high-profile individuals
• Excellent communication skills
• Creative and sound judgment
• Must be able to give direction and provide real-time feedback
• Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbally; knowledge of Spanish is an asset
• Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
Working Conditions: This position is required to work a minimum of 1 shift per 60 days. SFJAZZ produces events and performances at all times of the day/week. Evenings/weekends may be required. $42.76 hourly
