About this role
***For that position, we only hire in Morocco 🇲🇦***
Who is Rollee
Rollee is a data platform that helps financial institutions make better risk decisions by accessing verified income, employment, and other alternative data directly from the source.
The way people work has changed. Income can now come from multiple employers, freelance work, gig platforms, or other sources, but many financial institutions still rely on traditional documents and credit data to understand someone's financial situation. This can make verification slow and fragmented and can leave people with non-traditional income profiles underserved.
Through a single platform, we connect to sources such as gig platforms, government tax portals, payment platforms, and other employment and income systems, then transform that information into structured, actionable data. Our customers use it to verify income and employment, improve their risk models, reduce fraud, and make better underwriting decisions.
Ultimately, our mission is to help build a financial system where people can be assessed based on a more complete picture of their real financial situation, regardless of how or where they work.
The role
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer Intern to join our Coverage team for 6 months.
The Coverage team is responsible for expanding and maintaining Rollee’s ability to connect to employment and income data sources. You’ll work alongside our engineers on technical challenges involving web and mobile applications, third-party systems, APIs, authentication flows, and data extraction.
This internship is a great fit for someone who enjoys exploring how systems work, solving unconventional technical problems, and learning by doing. You’ll have the opportunity to work on real production challenges, collaborate with different members of our tech team, and progressively take ownership of your work.
We don’t expect you to know everything from day one. What matters most to us is your curiosity, technical foundations, willingness to learn, and ability to tackle unfamiliar problems.
What you'll do
• Build, maintain, and improve integrations with employment and income data sources
• Explore web and mobile applications to understand how they communicate with backend systems
• Work with documented, partially documented, and undocumented third-party APIs
• Help debug authentication flows, network requests, and data extraction processes
• Write clean, reliable, and maintainable Python code
• Investigate technical issues and contribute to finding solutions
• Learn and apply good engineering practices, design patterns, and clean architectures
• Contribute to testing, monitoring, and automation
• Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Developers, and other members of the team
• Take ownership of your work, iterate quickly, learn from feedback, and continuously improve
As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to take on increasingly challenging problems and greater ownership.
What we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
• Experience with Python, whether through internships, personal projects, coursework, or professional experience
• Some hands-on experience with web scraping, automation, or data extraction
• An interest in exploring and debugging web and/or mobile applications
• Curiosity about HTTP, APIs, and how applications communicate with backend systems
• A self-learning mindset and an appetite for challenging technical problems
• A strong interest in fintech, data, and financial inclusion
• The ability to learn independently and get comfortable with unfamiliar technical challenges
• Good written and spoken English - we work 100% in English
This is an internship, so we don’t expect you to tick every box. We’re much more interested in your technical foundations, curiosity, and ability to learn than in the number of technologies you already know.
Nice to have
Any of the following would be a plus:
• Experience working with undocumented or partially documented third-party APIs
• Experience with network debugging and traffic analysis
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization mechanisms
• Familiarity with mobile and/or web application security, encryption, and common security protocols
• Experience investigating how web or mobile applications work under the hood
• An understanding of privacy-by-design principles
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, or DevOps practices
• An interest in software architecture, design patterns, and technical excellence
• Experience working independently or as part of a remote team
Why Rollee
• Learn by building something that matters. Join an early-stage company with an ambitious mission: transforming how employment and income data is accessed around the world.
• Work on real problems. You won’t spend your internship on side projects. You’ll contribute to real technical challenges and production systems alongside our engineering team.
• Learn from an experienced team. Work closely with engineers, Product Managers, and Data Scientists and develop your skills through hands-on experience and feedback.
• Take ownership. We’ll give you the support you need while encouraging you to progressively own your work, make decisions, and learn from the results.
• Grow with us. Take on increasingly challenging problems as you develop your skills and demonstrate what you can do.
• Work flexibly. We care about outcomes and ownership, not where you sit. We give our team the flexibility and trust to do their best work.
• Get the tools you need. We provide a MacBook, plus access to a coworking space and/or a remote-work equipment budget, depending on your location.
• Be part of an international team. Work with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives in an environment where everyone can contribute.
• Join a well-backed company. Rollee is backed by leading investors and business angels, including Speedinvest, Seedcamp, and 20VC.
• And there’s more. We offer additional benefits that we’ll be happy to walk you through during the interview process.

• Take-home technical assignment
• Technical interview with members of the Coverage Team (1 hour)
