Role Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on Database Team Lead with strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server programming, performance tuning, administration, and maintenance. The candidate should have solid expertise in RDBMS and NoSQL databases and be capable of leading database development, optimization, production support, and team activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead database design, development, maintenance, and production support activities.
Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Develop and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
Perform database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
Manage database backup, recovery, security, monitoring, and maintenance.
Design and support high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
Monitor and track the team's database development and maintenance activities, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to standards.
Conduct regular peer reviews of database code, SQL scripts, stored procedures, and database designs to ensure quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
Establish and enforce database coding standards, best practices, and development guidelines.
Review technical solutions and provide guidance to team members on database design and optimization.
Work closely with application, architecture, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
Lead database migration, upgrade, and deployment activities.
Troubleshoot critical production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
Mentor database developers/engineers and provide technical leadership.
Identify opportunities to improve database performance, reliability, automation, and operational efficiency.
Must-Have Skills:
8+ years of database experience, with strong hands-on SQL Server expertise.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
Strong experience in SQL programming, stored procedures, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
Good knowledge of SQL Server administration, backup/restore, security, monitoring, and maintenance.
Strong understanding of RDBMS concepts, data modeling, transactions, normalization, concurrency, and database design.
Good hands-on knowledge of NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, or similar.
Understanding of when to use RDBMS vs. NoSQL based on application and scalability requirements.
Experience with database high availability, disaster recovery, and production support.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Team leadership, activity tracking, code/design reviews, and mentoring experience.
Good communication and collaboration skills.
Good to Have:
Experience with Azure / AWS database services.
Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB.
Knowledge of database CI/CD and DevOps practices.
Experience with cloud migration and database modernization.
Relevant Microsoft/AWS/Azure database certifications.
