This position participates in the custodial maintenance of Town buildings. Successful performance contributes to clean, attractive, and welcoming facilities for Town employees, citizens, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including fixtures and mirrors, and replenish soap and paper products
• Sweep and mop floors and help maintain clean, well-kept flooring throughout Town facilities
• Dust mop, vacuum, and mop tile floors and sweep carpeted areas using a push sweeper
• Wax floors annually as part of ongoing facility maintenance
• Clean kitchen tables and countertops
• Dust furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces
• Clean glass windows and doors
• Clean frequently touched areas such as door handles and hand railings
• Spot-clean walls to help maintain attractive facilities
• Empty and clean trash cans
• Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and buffers
• Safely use a variety of hand tools and cleaning chemicals
• Follow Town safety policies, procedures, and applicable material safety information
• Prioritize assigned work and follow instructions
• Work respectfully around coworkers, other Town employees, and members of the public
• Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of Town safety policies and procedures
• Knowledge of the proper use of various cleaning chemicals
• Skill in operating cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners and buffers
• Skill in using various hand tools
• Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
• Ability to prioritize work
• Ability to work effectively around the public
• Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and other Town employees
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Intermittent sitting, standing, bending, crouching, and stooping
• Frequent lifting of light or heavy objects
• Climbing ladders as needed to perform assigned duties
• Use of tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
• Ability to distinguish between shades of color and utilize the sense of smell
• Work performed in offices, libraries, stockrooms, warehouses, and outdoors
• Occasional work in cold or inclement weather
• Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts
• Use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves required
Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to read and write
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
• No prior experience required
• Valid New Hampshire driver’s license
Hours of Work:
40 hours a week: 6:00pm- 2:30am Mon-Fri; this position qualifies for a shift differential.
