Job Purpose
PCI's CNC Machine Operator sets up and runs the CNC routers that trim, drill, and finish carbon fibre composite parts and tooling, including writing and adjusting the CNC programs that drive those operations. The role exists to keep production parts within tolerance and on schedule, and to catch problems before they become scrap, on work bound for aerospace, defence, marine, and space customers.

Machine Operation and Programming
• Load and secure parts into fixtures using the work holding method specified on the setup sheet
• Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs for trimming, drilling, and routing composite parts
• Run CNC programs at the control panel, monitoring tool engagement and listening for signs of a developing problem such as chatter, delamination, or fiber breakout
• Make program-level adjustments and tool offset corrections to account for tool wear, fixture changes, or new part numbers
• Change worn or damaged cutting tools on schedule or when surface finish begins to degrade
Quality and Production Tracking
• Check dimensions at regular intervals using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to confirm parts are within tolerance
• Tag and set aside out-of-tolerance parts for quality review, escalating to the supervisor rather than continuing a suspect run
• Read work orders and travelers for part number, revision, quantity, and inspection requirements
• Log completed units, cycle time, and downtime in the shop floor tracking system
Housekeeping and Safety
• Clear dust and debris from the work area and keep dust extraction equipment running properly
• Keep the work area to 5S standards and participate in daily startup checks on fluid levels, guarding, and safety interlocks
Required Skills, Abilities and Experience
• High school diploma or GED
• CNC operator certificate from a community college or vocational program (6 to 12 months) valued but not required
• Previous experience operating CNC machinery, with demonstrated ability to write or edit CNC programs (G-code and/or CAM software)
• Composites industry experience is considered an asset
• Comfortable with precision measurement tools (digital and vernier calipers, outside and depth micrometers)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and willingness to flag a questionable part rather than run it
• Awareness of and commitment to product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, ethical conduct, and personal contribution to product quality and safety in accordance with AS9100 Rev D
• Continuing education supported by PCI upon approval
Working Conditions
Other conditions include:
• Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts, on occasion, based on demanding manufacturing schedules
• Stand for long periods of time. Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Repeat the same movements. Bend or twist the body. Climb ladders, kneel, stoop, or crouch for long periods of time
• Work in a dirty, dusty environment (PPE provided)
• PCI manufactures products that may act as an irritant and trigger allergic reactions or asthmatic symptoms in susceptible workers
Physical Requirements
CNC Machine Operators must have the following abilities:
• Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
• Work with power tools and heavy shop equipment
• Use hands throughout the composites manufacturing process
