The Role
American Lumber is seeking a Lumber Manufacturing Line Supervisor to provide hands-on, frontline leadership for an assigned production line at our Bryan remanufacturing facility.
This role oversees the day-to-day operation of a production line, such as the Trim Line, Rip Line, or Trim/Resaw operation, and helps ensure established production priorities are carried out safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
The Line Supervisor works directly with production employees throughout the shift, providing direction, coaching, and accountability while monitoring safety, quality, productivity, equipment condition, and overall line performance. This position also serves as an important communication link between frontline employees, maintenance, and plant leadership.
This is a full-time, on-site manufacturing leadership position in Bryan, Texas. Starting pay is expected to be $25–$26 per hour, depending on experience.
What You’ll Do
Lead Daily Production
• Supervise the day-to-day operation of an assigned manufacturing line.
• Direct employees toward established production goals and priorities.
• Conduct shift meetings and communicate expectations, priorities, and operational updates.
• Monitor throughput, recovery, downtime, waste, and overall line efficiency.
• Identify production bottlenecks or process issues and take appropriate action within the scope of the role.
• Communicate significant operational concerns or production variances to plant management.
Coach & Support Employees
• Provide frontline direction, coaching, feedback, and accountability to assigned production employees.
• Reinforce company policies, procedures, and standard work expectations.
• Help ensure employees receive and follow required training for equipment operation, safety, quality, and standard work practices.
• Identify additional training needs and communicate them to plant management.
• Model teamwork, accountability, respect, and a positive workplace culture.
Champion Safety
• Reinforce company safety policies, OSHA requirements, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe operating practices.
• Address unsafe practices within the scope of the position and promptly escalate significant safety concerns.
• Participate in incident investigations and support assigned corrective or preventive actions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Protect Product Quality
• Monitor production to ensure lumber meets established quality standards and customer specifications.
• Identify quality concerns and recurring variances.
• Communicate significant or ongoing quality issues to plant management.
Support Equipment Reliability
• Monitor equipment condition and identify developing mechanical or operational concerns.
• Coordinate with maintenance personnel to report equipment problems and support timely repairs.
• Help minimize unplanned downtime by communicating potential equipment failures early.
• Support scheduled preventive maintenance activities as directed by plant management and maintenance personnel.
Drive Continuous Improvement
• Identify practical opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, waste reduction, and equipment reliability.
• Recommend improvements to plant leadership and support approved improvement initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, quality, and other departments to resolve production challenges.
What We’re Looking For
• Previous supervisory or lead experience in a lumber, sawmill, wood-products, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and production equipment; lumber manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret production reports, quality specifications, and safety requirements.
• Strong frontline leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to coach employees, reinforce expectations, and hold team members accountable.
• Ability to make sound decisions within assigned authority and recognize when an issue should be escalated.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime as operational needs require.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or education is preferred.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Line Supervisor creates consistency on the production floor. You will help maintain a safe work environment, reinforce quality expectations, keep employees focused on established production goals, identify developing equipment or production concerns, coach your team, and help plant leadership continuously improve the operation.
You will be expected to lead from the floor, communicate clearly, address issues promptly, and know when to solve a problem within your role and when to involve plant leadership.
