Salem High School is the recipient of the Career Technical Initiative grant from Commonwealth Corporation, on behalf of the Governor Healey Administration and the Workforce Skills Cabinet, in 2021, which aims to build a skilled workforce in the trades through third-shift programs. This initiative seeks to address the persistent need for skilled labor in construction, trades, and manufacturing. Commonwealth Corporation administers these funds in hopes of eliminating the skills gap facing employers by providing opportunities for youth and adults to retrain for skilled occupations, as well as by transforming vocational high schools into Career Technical Institutes that operate three shifts a day to bring more high school students and adults into the program. As part of a multi-year strategy, CTI plans to train 20,000 new skilled workers in key trades and technical jobs. Among the grants approved by the Workforce Skills Cabinet in 2021, 35 new career pathway programs and 22 expansions at 10 vocational-technical schools will provide training and job placement for more than 800 adults. Position Summary:
Salem Technical Institute (STI), the adult education division of Salem High School and Salem Public Schools, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CTE Program Intern to support the smooth daily operations of our evening adult education programs. This part-time, grant-funded role is ideal for a current CTE senior or a recent graduate interested in workforce development, education, or nonprofit management. The Program Operations Intern will work closely with the STI Director of Workforce Development, Director of Operations, and instructors to support program execution and logistics. This includes assisting with classroom readiness, resource distribution, student check-in, light administrative support, and real-time troubleshooting during class sessions. Key Responsibilities:
• Greet and assist adult learners and instructors upon arrival
• Support classroom setup and organization of instructional materials
• Help monitor attendance and assist with student check-in/check-out procedures
• Communicate promptly with instructors and program leadership regarding student or classroom needs
• Assist with light administrative tasks, such as organizing paperwork, maintaining supplies, or distributing forms
• Serve as a runner to deliver messages or resources to classrooms when needed
• Provide basic troubleshooting support
• Support special events such as orientation, graduation, or employer nights
• Report any safety or behavioral concerns to the Director of Operations or STI leadership
• Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure smooth program delivery

• Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, learning environment
• Basic computer literacy; experience with Google Workspace preferred
• Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole) is a plus
This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding. Work Year: September 1st 2026 - June 30th 2027 Schedule: 12-18 hours a week based on availability Hourly Rate: $16/hour FTE/Hours: Part-time 12-18 hours, Monday through Thursday.
