Class Title: Paraprofessional Department: School Classification: Paraprofessional — 180 days Immediate Supervisor: Principal and/or Assistant Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel Services CLASS DESCRIPTION The paraprofessional works under the direction and supervision of a certified teacher to provide instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students, including students with disabilities. The paraprofessional assists in creating a safe, structured learning environment that allows students to access the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adheres to the policies and related directives of the East Providence School Department.
• Provides individual and small-group instructional support under the direction of the classroom or special education teacher.
• Reinforces lessons and skills introduced by the teacher; assists students in staying on task and completing assigned work.
• Implements accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans identified in student IEPs and 504 plans as directed by certified staff.
• Assists with the collection of data on student academic progress and behavior for use by the educational team.
• Provides personal care assistance as assigned, which may include toileting, feeding, mobility, and hygiene support.
• Implements de-escalation and crisis response strategies consistent with district training and student behavior plans.
• Supervises students in classroom and non-classroom settings, including hallways, cafeteria, recess, arrival, dismissal, and bus duty.
• Accompanies and supports students during specials, related services, community-based instruction, and field trips as assigned.
• Prepares instructional materials and assists with classroom organization and setup.
• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding students, families, and student records in accordance with FERPA and IDEA.
• Communicates student concerns to the supervising teacher promptly; refers parent questions regarding student progress to certified staff.
• Reports any student injury, behavioral incident, or safety concern immediately.
• Participates in required district and building professional development.
• Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience working with school-age children.
National Fingerprinted BCI, High School Diploma.
• Rate $16 and hour.
