Transportation Paraeducator—Split-Shift Position Red Oak Community Schools is seeking a positive, dependable transportation paraeducator to support students using specialized out of district transportation at the beginning and end of the school day. This is a split-shift position. The paraeducator will ride in a school van with students, build positive relationships through conversation and encouragement, and help ensure that each child has a safe and successful trip to and from their educational placement. The students served have individual needs and may require additional support with communication, behavior, transitions, mobility, or emotional regulation. Responsibilities include:
• Riding in the school van during morning and afternoon transportation routes
• Greeting students warmly and developing positive, appropriate relationships
• Following each student's IEP, behavior plan, health plan, and transportation procedures
• Supporting students with transitions
• Using patience, consistency, and positive behavior-support strategies
• Monitoring student safety throughout the route
• Communicating concerns or important information to the appropriate school staff
• Maintaining student confidentiality
• Working collaboratively with the driver, teachers, and special education staff
• Remaining calm and responding appropriately when a student needs additional support
The ideal candidate is kind, patient, reliable, and comfortable working closely with children who have a variety of needs. Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential because students depend on this support each morning and afternoon.
