About this role

MaST Community Charter School II is looking for a High School Cheerleading Head Coach. Strong background in cheerleading required. The season starts in October and will go through at least February and potentially longer. Further details on the timeline will be discussed if invited for an interview. The high school cheer team participates at a wide range of school events including basketball games, pep rallies, and potentially community events. Additional online certifications will be required and will also be discussed in interviews. Position: High School Cheerleading Head Coach Reports to: Athletic Director Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge base of the sport.

• Previous coaching experience of the sport preferred.

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate

Job Overview:

• To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive cheer program that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community.

• To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement.

• To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations and be a positive role model for all students.

• Supervises all students participating in the assigned sport and assistant coach (if applicable).

Responsibilities:

• Works with cheerleaders during practices, games, and competitions.

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.

• Assesses skills and assigns team positions.

• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.

• Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.

• Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

• Observes cheerleaders during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.

• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.

• Monitors the academic performance of students to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.

• Follows established school procedures in the event of an injury.

• Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their students

• Follows state, regional, league, and district regulations governing the program.

• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators in professional manner.

• Acts as a team representative and promotes the team by communicating news-worthy items to all appropriate parties.

• Maintains and follows established procedures for supplies, equipment, and uniforms.

• Works with the athletic director to submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.

• Participates in special activities including parent's night (at coach's discretion), banquets, community events, and pep rallies.

• Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records.

• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

• Attends all high school basketball games and provides proper supervision for the cheerleading team throughout the duration of the games.

• Attends staff development meetings, clinics, trainings, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

• Establishes procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.

• Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and compiles and maintain accurate individual and team performance records for future needs.

• Instructs participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.

• Encourages and facilitates off-season workouts, camps, and programs to promote continued student development.

• Aids (in conjunction with high school coaches) in the process for preparing students for high school level competition.

• Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary (if applicable).

• Identifies appropriate competitions for the team held in the community.

• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal.
