About this role

Primary Funtion: Under the direction of the Campus Police, Chief of Police, the Captain performs a variety of complex, technical, and administrative duties in support of the Police Department. The Administrative Captain serves as an executive advisor to the Chief of Police and is responsible for organizational alignment with the SCCPSS policy and Strategic plan, accountability, and continuity of operations, while maintaining readiness for routine operations, critical incidents, and emergency response within the school district's law enforcement agency. The Administrative Captain is authorized, as delegated or required, to represent the Chief of Police and act on the Chief's behalf in administrative, operational, and executive matters. REPORTS TO: CHIEF OF CAMPUS POLICE SALARY SCHEDULE: 303 WORKDAYS: 250 Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's degree in related field

• Three (3) years of supervisory experience in law enforcement environment or related field; strong organizational and supervisory skills.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in public administration or criminal justice administration

Licenses, Certifications, and other Requirements Required:

• Possession of the Supervisory/Management Post Certificate or commensurate training and experience

Preferred:

• Any additional certifications related to internal affairs investigations or accreditation processes would be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in purchasing, budgeting, and procurement best practices.

• Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to crime, safety, and security

• The ability to interpret and explain laws, rules, policies, and procedures, and to apply them appropriately

• Strong interpersonal/communication skills

• Knowledge of training/teaching techniques for law enforcement personnel.

• Knowledge of public relations and crime prevention programs

• Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as “public relations” skills

• Knowledge and skill in the use of MS Office Suite

Manages Central Office Security, front desk, emergency communications, ID card system, and its personnel. 2. Manage and oversee the department's budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively across all operational, personnel, training, equipment, technology, and school safety functions. 3. Manages the department's quartermaster, assists with the purchasing of all department equipment, and the selection of vendors through the procurement and bid processes. Manages the department's evidence collection, processing, and evidence custodian personnel. 4. Manages the department's fleet management program, maintaining accurate documentation along with ensuring all department vehicles are in good working order. Facilitates any and all repairs as required, assist in the decision-making process for the selection and purchasing of new vehicles annually. 5. Assist in directing departmental operations and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and directives. 6. Prepare executive briefings and lead strategic initiatives, including policy development and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), while developing reports and decision documents involving sensitive operational, personnel, and school safety matters. 7. Maintain continuity of command and executive decision-making during crises and high-demand operations. 8. Provide administrative oversight of command staff and ensure alignment with departmental goals and professional standards. 9. Oversee staffing, deployment, training, and readiness of personnel. 10. Serve as the department's administrative representative with district leadership, the School Board, and public safety partners. 11. Provide command-level leadership during critical incidents, emergency activations, and major school safety events. 12. Coordinate district-wide emergency planning, including active threats, natural disasters, mass-casualty incidents, reunification, and continuity of operations. 13. Ensure legal compliance, accreditation standards, policy integrity, internal controls, and documentation accuracy. 14. Serve as a liaison with local, state, and federal public safety agencies and coordinate multi-agency operations and agreements. 15. Support community engagement, public trust, and school safety initiatives. 16. All other duties assigned. Work Environment Employees in this classification are normally exposed to a typical office environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching. There is frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands. Employees in this classification may also work in specialized locations and conditions, including:

• Duties are performed primarily in an office setting; requires travel to various locations of Chatham County and other locations throughout the United States as required.

• Requires driving a district-owned vehicle

• Operates equipment to include mobile and portable radios, telephone, copier, computer keyboard, and calculator.

• Performs work safely in accordance with department safety procedures and the County Safety Program.

• Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.

Exceptional Physical or Sensory Demands

• Heavy lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

• Sitting or standing for extended periods with limited control over rest periods.

• Incumbents may be required to restrain students or adults in potentially violent situations. There may be circumstances that require climbing, stooping, lifting, running, crawling, and other demanding physical activity. Eyesight may be corrected but must be very good even in low light. Long periods of seated travel by car between locations will be required. There may be prolonged periods of standing and walking.
