NACO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT #23 JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Middle School Assistant Softball Coach Location: Naco Elementary School District #23, Naco, Arizona Reports To: Superintendent/Principal and Head Softball Coach Position Type: Seasonal Stipend Position POSITION SUMMARY Naco Elementary School District is seeking a positive, dependable, and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Middle School Assistant Softball Coach. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to develop student-athletes' fundamental softball skills while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, academic success, and positive character in a safe and supportive environment. The Assistant Coach is expected to serve as a positive role model for students and support the overall goals, expectations, and policies of Naco Elementary School District and its athletic program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices.
• Help instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, techniques, rules, and strategies of softball.
• Assist with developing individual and team skills appropriate for middle school athletes.
• Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, respect, responsibility, and positive character.
• Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, tournaments, and team travel.
• Assist with game preparation, field preparation, equipment setup, and equipment inventory.
• Assist the Head Coach with maintaining an organized and positive team environment.
• Support and enforce all Naco Elementary School District, school, conference, and Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) athletic policies and procedures, as applicable.
• Encourage student-athletes to maintain appropriate academic performance and attendance.
• Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior both on and off the field.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, school staff, and administration.
• Follow all district procedures regarding student supervision, transportation, safety, injuries, and emergency situations.
• Maintain a safe athletic environment and promptly report injuries, safety concerns, or other issues to the Head Coach and administration.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate care, storage, and security of athletic equipment and facilities.
• Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and other athletic program activities.
• Perform other duties related to the athletic program as assigned by the Superintendent/Principal or Head Coach.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous softball playing or coaching experience preferred.
• Experience working with middle school students preferred.
• Ability to work effectively and positively with student-athletes.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach, other coaches, school staff, students, and families.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends during the softball season.
• Commitment to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and athletic development of students.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND CLEARANCES
• Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain one as required by law.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification before beginning coaching duties.
• Completion of all district-required coaching, safety, concussion, and athletic training requirements.
• Completion of any applicable AIA or conference-required coaching requirements.

• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to student safety concerns and athletic injuries.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, staff, coaches, and administrators.
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of an athletic coaching team.
• Commitment to supporting student academic achievement and school attendance.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Practices and games may occur during afternoon and evening hours.
• Occasional weekend games or tournaments may be required.
• Work will primarily occur outdoors on athletic fields and may include indoor school facilities.
• Position requires extended periods of standing, walking, running, bending, lifting, and demonstrating or assisting with athletic skills.
• May require lifting and transporting athletic equipment and supplies.
• Must be able to work safely in varying weather conditions during the softball season.
COMPENSATION Seasonal coaching stipend in accordance with the Naco Elementary School District Governing Board-approved coaching stipend schedule.
