Employment Type JOB DESCRIPTION DISTRICT NURSE JOB SUMMARY: The District Nurse serves as a health consultant for site administrators who are responsible for health services at their sites and is directly responsible to the Director of Pupil Services. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as a resource for health issues within the district.
• Monitors compliance with all health and immunization requirements.
• Makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures in health-related areas, and interprets these policies and procedures for staff and community.
• Assists director in supervising and evaluation health services.
• Provides nursing direction to licensed and non-licensed personnel, including but not limited to, LVN's and health clerks at school sites.
• Provides training in specialized health care procedures.
• Coordinates health screening services.
• Provides in-service training to staff regarding health services and health education.
• Serves as a health education resource person to staff, pupils, and parents.
Provides health instruction as required.
• Participates in the placement of pupils in special instructional programs when appropriate.
• Represents District with the County Health Department and other community agencies.
• Assists the risk manager in assessing employee health complaints.
• Aid in recruitment and orientation of new personnel.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education: Bachelor of Science in nursing. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of successful school nurse experience and two (2) years of nursing leadership experience. Credential(s): California health and development or standard designated services credential in health. Knowledge and Knowledge of laws (federal and state) and procedures pertaining to Abilities: nursing practice and education; operation of health services programs; personnel training; ability to coordinate health services programs; establish, maintain, and manage effective working relationships with staff and community; exercise good judgment in dealing with sensitive interpersonal situations; communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to make decisions and maintain professional relationships with pupils, parents, supervisor and staff members. Licenses: California driver's license and willingness to use own vehicle.
