About this role

Main duties Assist with personal care and activities of daily living, including washing, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence care, while protecting dignity, privacy and confidentiality. Support safe mobility, repositioning and transfers using approved moving and handling techniques and equipment. Assist with meals, eating, drinking and hydration in accordance with individual care plans and dietary requirements. Observe residents' condition, comfort and safety and promptly report changes, concerns, incidents or emergencies to the Registered Nurse. Assist with care records and other documentation as directed. Communicate respectfully with residents, families and the multidisciplinary team, referring clinical queries to the Registered Nurse. Provide companionship and reassurance and support residents to maintain independence and participate in social, recreational and religious activities. Follow care plans, infection prevention and control procedures, safeguarding requirements, health and safety procedures and organisational policies. Help maintain clean, safe and appropriately stocked resident, clinical and sluice areas, and report faulty equipment. Assist with meal and beverage service, ward errands and other appropriate support duties as directed. Attend mandatory training, supervision and continuing professional development. Requirements QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support or equivalent recognised training, or a commitment to commence the required QQI Level 5 programme. Previous Healthcare Assistant or older-person care experience is desirable. Applicants must demonstrate a caring, compassionate and resident-centred approach, good communication and teamwork skills, reliability and flexibility.
