Job SummaryThe position is located in the Business Operations Service (BOS) within the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). This position's primary focus will be on all scheduler training and performing scheduling audits for the Battle Creek VAMC.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must meet one of the following qualification requirements: GS-7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is providing administrative support assisting employees in achieving mandatory schedule training, creating specialized training agendas and/or orientation plans; and using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software to develop training tools and materials. NOTE: This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ GS-7 EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess at least one (1) full year of graduate education. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). ~OR~ GS-7 COMBINATION: Possess an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level of education and experience as described above to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels. To be computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. WORK ENVIROMENT: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office environment. Occasional travel may be required. Since the Battle Creek VA Medical Center is an integrated, multi-divisional facility which is geographically disbursed, it may be necessary for the incumbent to physically work, on occasion, at the various Battle Creek locations such as one of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's). The incumbent will also be required to travel, sometimes overnight between the facilities when necessary. The purpose of the travel is to attend staff meetings and/or facilitate training on scheduled training dates. Major Duties***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-9. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-9. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as the Training Coordinator within Business Operations Service (BOS), which is the largest administrative department within the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Determines training requirements to design and instruct course requirements using specific guidance on topics covered, methodology, approaches, and sources used to provide the needed educational requirements. Courses taught at this level may cover a wide variety of topics in well-established areas of a subject matter field, which includes training healthcare providers and schedulers. Courses generally involve instructional problems that require organization, illustration, and interpretation of course material in order to reach and motivate students who may pose typical deficiencies of communication and motivation, e.g., diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest in the course. Maintains the facility wide master list for scheduling ensuring all schedulers are compliant with scheduling requirements. Plans and coordinates scheduler training, for each new employee who has access to scheduling patient appointments. Identifies and determines training priorities, conducts and administers training programs, develops and improves training guidance, and conducts classes or other group setting instruction. Assists employees in achieving mandatory schedule training; upon request, creates specialized training agendas and/or orientation plans. Performs audits and analyses, preparing and presenting findings and recommendations to the HAS Supervisory Team, Section Chiefs and the Executive Leadership Team. Performs other duties assigned.
