Job SummaryThis position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of the Chief Information Officer in Washington, D.C. The position serves as a senior technical expert responsible for cloud engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning engineering, secure platform design, and responsible-AI implementation supporting SBA mission systems and modernization priorities.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must show that you have the required IT-related experience for the grade level to which your are applying: GS-14, Required Competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. AND GS-14: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: 1. serving as a senior cloud and AI engineer, that leads the development and institutional use of technical standards and reference architectures for cloud-hosted AI solutions; AND 2. designing and implementing end-to-end AI platforms that incorporate secure data pipelines, APIs, model development and inference environments, and containerized workloads; AND 3. planning and executing pilots or proofs-of-concept to evaluate emerging cloud and AI technologies, and advising leadership on whether to adopt, refine, or discontinue those solutions based on mission impact, security, and implementation risk; AND 4. routinely explaining complex technical issues, risks, and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in ways that build consensus and secure acceptance of recommended technical approaches, priorities, and standards within a federal IT and AI policy and governance context. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above. All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 09/16/2026.

Major DutiesAs an IT Specialist (Senior Cloud AI Engineer) at theGS- 2210-14, some of your typical work assignments may include: Develop technical standards, reference architecture, implementation patterns, responsible-AI guardrails, and reusable engineering playbooks for cloud-hosted AI and machine-learning workloads. Develop target-state architectures for cloud-hosted AI workloads, including data pipelines, APIs, model development environments, inference services, containerized applications, and supporting infrastructure. Lead or support pilots, proofs-of-concept, and engineering assessments of emerging cloud and AI technologies, and recommend adoption, refinement, or discontinuation based on mission value, security, and implementation risk. Communicate complex technical concepts, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations in terms understandable to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
