Job SummaryThis position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Southeast Region, Division of Maintenance, Everglades National Park. Performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments SCREEN OUT: Minimum Qualifications: Performed carpentry or woodworking jobs, such as installing hinges on cabinets, cutting and fastening boards, drywall installation, and building concrete frames. Painted interior and exterior surfaces. Performed basic electrical installations or repairs such as installing fixtures, replacing fuses and light bulbs. Performed basic plumbing work such as installing fixtures, replacing washers in faucets, and unclogging sinks, etc. Performed sanitation services such as cleaning sinks, toilets, sweeping and mopping floors, collecting trash and debris, and ensuring that there are adequate supplies of soap, towels and toilet paper for a public restroom. Operated motor vehicles for picking up supplies and transporting personnel equipment and materials. Performed basic landscaping and grounds maintenance such as cutting grass with push/riding mowers, weed eaters, power blowers, and pruners. Performed masonry jobs such as using mortar, tile, brick or cinderblock in construction applications. Lift and carry objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Major DutiesPerforms simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities refers problems to higher graded workers. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work. Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches. Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures. Reports discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items. Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collects trash, cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging.RequirementsMust be a U.S. Citizen or National. Minimum Age Requirement: You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
