He angitūtanga: The opportunity The Tūpuna Maunga Authority is the statutory authority established under the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau Collective Redress Act to co-govern fourteen Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains), or volcanic cones across Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland. The Tūpuna Maunga Authority is comprised of equal representation from the Mana Whenua iwi/hapū of Tāmaki Makaurau and Auckland Council, together with Crown (non-voting) representation. The Raumati Field Officer supports the Tūpuna Maunga Operational Team by having a strong on-the-ground presence across the Tūpuna Maunga network during the busy summer period, engaging with visitors and collecting information to support management of the Maunga. This is an opportunity to be involved in an exciting work programme in a co-governance environment, supporting the realisation of Mana Whenua aspirations for and actively protecting the Tūpuna Maunga. As a customer-facing and operational support role, the Raumati Field Officer will represent the Tūpuna Maunga Authority and actively engage with manuhiri (visitors) to promote the values underpinning the care and protection of the Maunga. You will act as the “eyes and ears” of the Tūpuna Maunga Operational Team through visitor surveys and education, community engagement, vehicle and car-park monitoring, dog monitoring and education, asset and maintenance observations, RFS identification and follow-up, audits, reporting, and social media assistance. The fixed-term programme will run from 9 November 2026 to 26 March 2027. Each position will work 20 hours per week, rostered across weekdays and weekends. Officers must work at least one weekend day each week, generally alternating between Saturday and Sunday. Operational requirements, events, public holidays, and the Christmas and New Year period may occasionally require work on both weekend days. Officers will work predominantly together unless undertaking work with minimal public interaction or accompanied by another Tūpuna Maunga team member. You will work well in a team environment and have clear communications skills. You will be community orientated with the ability to build rapport with diverse members of the public, volunteer groups, contractors and other stakeholders.You will have a passion for kaupapa Māori, and confidence working in a Te Ao Māori setting. You will be self-motivated, results orientated, with good time management and organisation skills.
