In this position you will develop AI models to improve the lives of patients with psychiatric disorders. Interested? Apply now! In this project, you will develop predictive AI models that support clinically actionable outcomes for psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. Working closely with (neuro)scientists and clinicians, you will translate cutting-edge AI methods into solutions for real-world clinical challenges. Your research will span a broad range of modelstopics, including deep learning, causal machine learning, distributed learning, unsupervised learning, foundation models, natural language processing, and explainable AI. A key challenge is that psychiatric research often relies on relatively small datasets, that while biomedical data are limited, and that data are subject to strict privacy requirements. You will work with a rich variety of data sources, including clinical data, (unstructured) electronic health records, MRI, time-series data (such as EEG, functional MRI, speech, and video), omics data, and mobile sensing. Amsterdam UMC offers access to extensive large datasets for model development and diagnostics, while also providing a unique opportunity to develop AI models for actionable problems for methods that remain effective in the small-data settings that are common in psychiatric research. You will develop innovative AI tools to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. You will initiate and lead AI research projects in close collaboration with clinicians and researchers, combining cutting-edge AI methods with pressing clinical challenges. In addition to conducting your own research, you will (co-)supervise PhD candidates and initiate research projects for AI _tudents, helping to foster the next generation of researchers. You will also (co-)lead the department’s data science interest group, contribute to regional collaborations on data sharing, and actively acquire funding to expand and sustain this line of research. You have a (nearly completed) PhD in AI and a strong scientific track record; You have experience with biomedical data analysis, image analysis, time-series analysis and/or unstructured data; You have excellent communication skills and command of written and oral English. Basic command of Dutch is preferred; You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment together with clinicians and are dedicated to developing clinical applications for psychiatry. One-year contract with possible extension for one more year. Further extension is dependent on additional funding. Classification in salary scale 10 or 11: € 3.724 to € 6.825 gross for full-time employment (depending on education and experience). In addition to a good basic salary, we offer 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Calculate your net salary here.
