Main duties of the job Clinical Practice (Anaesthetic & Recovery)
Provide senior support during anaesthetic preparation and in Recovery
Deliver high-quality recovery care including airway management, monitoring, and escalation of deteriorating patients
Ensure safe patient positioning, transfer, and handover processes
Support adherence to WHO/NatSSIPs safety standards and local theatre policies
Leadership & Team Support
Act as a clinical role model within anaesthetic and recovery teams
Support, supervise, and mentor junior staff and learners
Promote a positive learning environment and reflective practice
Assist in daily coordination of theatre activity where required

The Senior Theatre Practitioner in Anaesthetic & Recovery will provide expert clinical support within anaesthetic and recovery services, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative care. The post holder will act as a senior clinician, supporting theatre teams, leading by example, and contributing to the delivery of efficient theatre services.
The role requires strong clinical competence, leadership skills, and a commitment to patient safety, governance, and staff development. You have the qualifications and experience that are relevant to your registration, including NMC or HCPC. Plus, you bring post-registration experience, flexibility and excellent communication skills. You're also a great team worker.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice (Anaesthetic & Recovery)
Provide senior support during anaesthetic preparation and in Recovery

Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards

Support audit and quality improvement initiatives
Ensure adherence to NEWS2 and escalation protocols
Education & Development
Support mandatory training compliance across the team
Assist with competency sign-off and clinical assessments
Contribute to training delivery within anaesthetic and recovery areas
Encourage continuous professional development within the team
Communication & Collaboration
Work effectively with anaesthetists, surgeons, ODPs, nurses, and wider MDT
Maintain clear communication during perioperative care pathways
Support theatre flow, scheduling, and efficient use of resources
Escalate risks, concerns, and operational issues appropriately
Service Delivery & Improvement
Support achievement of theatre efficiency and utilisation targets
Contribute to service improvement initiatives
Promote best practice and evidence-based care
Support reduction of cancellations and delays where possible
