We are seeking an experienced Optometric Assistant who specializes in optical dispensing to join our growing team! Role Overview As an Optometric Assistant, you will play a key role in both clinical support and customer-facing dispensary operations. You will split your time between assisting the Optometrist with pre-testing/patient care and helping patients select, fit, order, and adjust their perfect pair of glasses or contact lenses. Key Responsibilities Optical Dispensing & Eyewear Care:
• Assist patients in selecting frames, lens types, coatings, and materials based on their lifestyle and prescription needs. • Take precise measurements (including segment height and pupillary distance / PD). • Perform frame adjustments, fittings, alignment, and minor frame repairs. • Verify prescription accuracy of incoming lab orders before patient delivery. • Educate patients on lens options (progressives, anti-reflective coatings, blue-light, photochromic) and contact lens insertion/removal care. Optometric & Patient Care Support:
• Welcome patients and perform preliminary testing (Autorefractor, NCT/tonometer, visual fields, fundus imaging). • Collect and update patient medical history and vision records in our EHR system. • Verify vision insurance benefits and explain out-of-pocket costs clearly to patients. • Keep exam rooms and display cases clean, organized, and sanitized. Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience Required: Minimum 1+ years of experience as an Optometric Assistant or Optical Dispenser/Optician in an eye care setting. • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of optical lenses, frame fitting, PD measurements, and optical adjustments. • Customer Service: Friendly, professional demeanor with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • EHR & Computer Savvy: Comfortable navigating EHR/practice management software and submitting insurance claims/orders online. • Certification (Plus, but not required): CPO, CPOA, or ABO certification is a bonus!
