Supervisor, Parks ConstructionPosition Status: Full-Time RegularDepartment: Regional ParksEmployee Group: ExemptLocation: 4515 Central Boulevard, BurnabySalary Range/ Wage Rate: Management / Leadership, Level M1 ($113,977.62 - $134,055.72 annually) (2024 wage rates) Our Regional Parks Department is seeking a Supervisor, Parks Construction who will lead the regional park construction team responsible for delivering park construction projects and infrastructure improvements that support safe, accessible, and resilient regional parks. This position works 40 hours weekly, 5 days per week. You are an experienced, collaborative, and safety-focused construction leader with demonstrated success managing staff, contractors, budgets, and complex projects, and a strong commitment to regional parks and the valuable services they provide to the region. The Supervisor, Parks Construction reports to the Division Manager, Parks Design & Development. This role: Supervises the Metro Vancouver Regional Park Construction Group responsible for the construction, repair and upgrade of core regional park infrastructure that is required to ensure public safety within Metro Vancouver Regional Parks. Accountable for the overall planning, scheduling and coordination of construction staff and contractors, including the allocation of resources for the completion of planned and emergency work at multiple job sites. Works in conjunction with engineering, operations, professional staff, and skilled trades to plan the effective delivery of regional parks construction projects, ensuring all required permits are in place, materials procured and contractors scheduled. Coordinates operational communications related to construction activities and public access closures. Ensures the timely response to and repair of emergency matters so that publicly accessible areas can be repaired and reopened in a timely manner. Schedules, plans, and manages the work of two or more construction crews working concurrently on planned and emergency work at different sites throughout the regional park system. Monitors and controls spending to ensure the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds within the approved budget. Contributes to budget preparation and planning. Prepares annual operating budgets, capital project budget estimates and recommends program priorities. Proposes strategies to effectively use resources and prepares business cases for improvements, equipment replacements or issues outside of budget requiring immediate attention. Hires, supervises, directs and develops staff, monitoring performance towards division, department, and corporate objectives; ensures staff adhere to corporate workplace conduct and purchasing policies. Leads, coaches, and develops staff recognizing the importance of technical and safety training. Develops, implements, and ensures adherence to safe work procedures and ensures they are integrated into the work routines of staff and contractors. Conducts monthly safety meetings and inspections. Continuously monitors work practices noting and addressing recurring issues; identifies and mitigates construction hazards; and investigates and reports on safety incidents. Writes letters, memos, reports, specifications, requests for proposals, and committee reports pertaining to the construction function. Liaises with operations staff, the public, contractors, park partners, Emergency Services, and government agencies as required. Performs other related duties as required. To be successful, you have: 3 years of recent, related construction experience supplemented by a university degree or diploma in a relevant discipline such as construction, civil/structural engineering technology, architecture or landscape architecture, engineering or another relevant field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
