About this role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Counselor to ensure the accurate and timely processing of patient accounts and to coordinate all aspects of patient billing, credits, and Accounts Receivable (A/R) collections. This role is responsible for completing assigned duties accurately and efficiently while working collaboratively with the financial team and other departments to support optimal office flow and provide excellent patient account service.
The Financial Counselor may be responsible for verifying insurance benefits and eligibility, providing financial counseling to assist patients with self-pay accounts, and managing the billing and collection of insurance and self-pay accounts. The Financial Counselor works collaboratively with the financial team, clinical staff, and other departments to ensure a positive patient experience and effective financial operations.
HOURS: Your choice: Monday through Friday 7:00am-4:00pm or 8:00am-5:00pm. No weekends!
Job Duties:
• Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage limitations, deductibles, co-insurance, and fertility-specific benefits, and communicate financial responsibilities clearly to patients.
• Provide compassionate and comprehensive financial counseling to patients, including reviewing treatment costs, payment options, self-pay estimates, and available financing or payment plans.
• Coordinate and process patient accounts accurately, including charges, payments, adjustments, refunds, credits, and account balances.
• Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately and timely, monitor claim status, and follow up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims as needed.
• Manage assigned Accounts Receivable by reviewing outstanding balances, contacting patients or insurance carriers regarding past-due accounts, and taking appropriate steps to facilitate timely payment.
• Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and billing teams to resolve account discrepancies, insurance issues, and patient financial concerns while maintaining excellent communication and patient service.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient financial records and documentation while adhering to clinic policies, payer requirements, and applicable billing and privacy regulations.
Experience and Education:
• High School diploma or GED required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
• at least 1 year of experience providing financial counseling in a health care related field is REQUIRED
• women's Health experience is preferred
• Bilingual-Spanish a plus!
