Position Summary: To provide comprehensive dental assistance to dental attendings and residents.

• Preparing exam rooms and patients for dental examination and treatment.
• Assisting with and helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics and dental anesthesiology.
• Serving as an infection control officer, following infection control protocol, preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
• Maintaining clinic and clinic equipment in a hygienic condition.
• Making sure that no medical/dental supplies are expired.
• Taking digital x-rays
• Taking and developing dental radiographs when digital system is down
• Mixing amalgams, cements, and other dental materials.
• Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts ( models for teeth)
• Stocking dental areas as needed.
• Assisting attendings and dental residents with obtaining patient information for the dental record.
• Assisting Administrative Assistant in maintaining standards, conditions and procedures in clinic in accordance with regulatory standard requirements.
• Following Department of Dental Medicine and Hospital Rules and Regulations
• Following HIPPA Compliance, OSHA Regulations, Infection Control Regulations and Sterilization Regulations.
• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
• Attending department meetings and all required training
Position Requirments:
This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of less than 6 mos. job-related experience.
Desired (not required) criteria include: Fluent in Spanish preferred, One year of full- time paid experience as a dental assistant or satisfactory equivalent that includes a strong background in the dental field desired.
Comments Dental Assistant Certificate from a school for dental assistants approved by the New York State Education Department or by the National Association for Trade and Technical Schools with at least 900 instructional hours REQUIRED
