Summary
The Fitter/Welder is responsible for reading and interpreting engineering drawings, performing layout and fit-up activities, and completing welding operations on complex assemblies. This position requires a high level of skill and knowledge in the use of fabrication equipment, including drills, saws, overhead cranes, forklifts, welding equipment, and other shop tools. The individual must consistently produce quality work while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Some of the work you will do:
Safety
• Properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Maintain and promote a safe work environment.
Technical Responsibilities
• Fit and assemble complex components using approved fabrication and welding procedures.
• Perform FCAW (Dual Shield) and GMAW (Hard Wire) welding on various metals and alloys.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions to meet high-pressure and structural strength requirements.
• Operate MIG welding equipment and weld parts utilizing fixtures and fabrication jigs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production requirements.
• Successfully pass a welding certification test, preferably in the 6G position.
• Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of welding machines, tools, and related equipment.
Quality
• Produce work that meets company quality standards and customer requirements.
• Inspect fit-up, welds, and finished assemblies for dimensional accuracy and workmanship.
• Conduct self-inspections and inspect work performed by others when required.
• Rework or repair welds as necessary before parts move to the next operation.
Communication & Teamwork
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and coworkers.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
Attendance & Schedule
•
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• A normal workday consists of ten (10) hours.
• Complete assigned work orders and production tasks within established schedules.
Here are the skills that you need:
Education
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience
• Three to five (3-5) years of welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience with FCAW (Dual Shield) and GMAW (Hard Wire) welding processes required.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
Skills & Abilities
• Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, grinders, saws, and other fabrication equipment.
• Ability to safely lift, move, and position materials and components.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart:
• Previous welding certifications.
• GTAW (TIG Welding) experience.
• 6G welding certification or ability to pass 6G testing.
• Pipe welding experience.
• Experience fabricating and welding structural steel assemblies.
• Knowledge of AWS welding standards and quality requirements.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance or lifting equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment exposed to heat, noise, welding fumes, and other shop conditions.
