About this role

Service Manager develops plans and budgets for all resources within the Applications group (lawn, tree, weed), including procurement, labor, equipment and materials. Through team, ensures maximum use and completion of work within budget and safety guidelines, while maintaining quality standards. Promotes the growth and development of field staff and assists them in carrying out their responsibilities as needed. Responsible for hiring and training team, ensuring appropriate staffing for projected workload. Plans, supervises and monitors applications processes, and identifies required training through field audits. Ensures staff is always properly licensed. Works to maintain and improve staff morale and addresses personnel issues promptly and fairly in accordance with established policies.

Salary Range: $45k - $55k per year. This is a salary, exempt position.

Employment/Human Resources: • Responsible for all aspects of department staffing, including interviewing and selecting new employees, evaluations, recommending pay increases, and terminations. • Ensure team is properly trained, certified, and licensed to perform their assigned job functions. • Conduct site inspections and provide ongoing training as needed. Compliance: • Respond to customer complaints • Order equipment and supplies • Meet contract specifications • Maintain Landscape Contractors License • Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop field offices and customer work sites. • Stay aware of Best Practices. Develop and recommend improved work methods and standards. Financial: • Develop a yearly department budget and work with branch manager to monitor wages, revenue %, capital budget, etc. • Develop and implement strategy for growing business and developing department assets • Evaluate current contracts and oversee changes to scope and price to improve profitability. Technical: • Work in the field as needed including applications work. • Provide technical assistance when needed. • Manage snow removal and décor functions when needed. • Must be able to obtain Applicator's license within 30 days of hire and maintain license Administrative: • Oversee payroll • Ensure all field reporting and records are completed accurately and in a timely matter.

Education, Experience and Competencies:

High school diploma or equivalent, prefer 2- or 4-year degree in horticulture, business or a related field. Experience may substitute for education. • 3 – 5 years of experience as a supervisor or manager in landscaping industry. • Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline oriented. • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and effectively train and ensure direct reports are able to comply with above. • Ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors and employees at all levels of the organization. • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position manages supervisors and/or employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment:

While performing the responsibilities of the Applications Manager, the employee is required to talk, hear and see. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee will be using a telephone with or without a headset. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must also occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision. Maintain a neat and clean appearance as outlined in Senske's employee handbook. Follow safety regulations and work in a safe manner The employee may be required to frequently inspect the work of technicians. Work is performed outside in various weather conditions. Vision abilities required for this job include close vision and using a computer and/or handheld device.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Equipment used includes computer keyboard for data entry, telephone system, copying machines, filing systems as well as mowing, plow, and other lawn maintenance equipment. The employee must be able to travel by vehicle to job sites if necessary. There is travel identified for this position of approximately 20%.
